Sorry forgot to say this photo was taken in about 1952 out side my house in Arthur terrace Hay Mills.

Hi all I don't know if ive posted this photo on the forum before, but i think this is just about the time and place for it. I agree times were hard in the 40's and 50's but like Pete and lyn i would not change a thing.

Remember when oranges tasted like oranges i went to Cyprus last year and the oranges there tasted like they did hear when i was a kid.

Hi i was born in Langley road Small heath 1944. moved to arthur terrace off arthur road Hay Mills in 1948. lived in Denham Road Acocks Green from 1957 till moving to Hall Green in 1984 moved to Warton a small village in North Warwicks 16 years ago.

Yes we made a lot of things at christmas, paper chains and things for the tree, cheap and nasty they would say today but i loved them and enjoyed making them. regards Podgery

Hi berniew thanks for that they are a great set of pics, but i still can't work out where the toll house was. i must be thick or suffering memory loss but in my memory there was the tavern then the road to the church and then the bridge over the river, so i know we are talking a long time ago...

What a great picture. i lived in haymills till i was thirteen, i remember the tavern even drank in it later but cant place where this toll house would have been. regards podgery.

Yes Nijinski, i started my drinking life at the Speedwell were i drank m&b mild. When i change pubs i couldn't get on with the mild at the Great Western so i changed to the bitter and have drunk it ever since.

In the early 60's and before, the Great Western pub in Acocks Green sold it's Brew X1 from a tank fab pint.
