    Birmingham buses

Don't know what happens in the Birmingham area but the major bus route stops here in Cornwall have visual displays which gives you real time info. First bus also have a Facebook page that gives info regards any problems with delayed buses, in my opinion not a good thing as just shows how...

    Getting on the tram

Shame we don't have a similar rule in this country as they do in the USA regards not passing a School bus when loading or discharging passengers.

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

I used to take the Rainbow day and night duty managers home back in 1967 when I was a private hire driver, quite handy as they lived in Brownhills and were married to each other.

    Pype Hayes Park

Alan visited last week, still living in Scotland. He always loved his gardening and had worked for the Parks department at Brookvale when I first met him after I started going out with his Sister in 1970. Alan had the extension built for his Mother to live in but after sometime decided that a...

    Birmingham buses

I was still driving Bristol VRT.s for First Bus in 2003 which were over 20 years old. Had a none blameworthy accident in one and the garage manager told me that the maximum repair cost couldn't exceed £500 or the vehicle would be scrapped.

    Birmingham buses

Bus fleets in the major cities are passed down to towns and cities elsewhere in the country. For example, in Cornwall we were operating many vehicles that were well over 20 years old. No reason to dispose of serviceable vehicles if they can still be operated at a profit. What forced change a...

    Radio/TV now and then.

My Brother in Law caused disruption when he took over the Archers before he moved on to Eastenders where he also caused much unrest with the cast. Introducing Gay characters in to the Archers seems to have been his downfall.

    Advertising on the bus

In Cornwall most School buses (not College) are in service when they cover the School runs so are still required to adhere to the timetable.

    Perry Hall Park

Hello Carolann must have mixed Brian up with someone else I knew. I remember now that you mention it was Brian. Not sure when your Nan lived there but I was born in Dewsbury grove in 45 and left in 70 but my Mother was still there for a number of years. Do you remember the Kearneys who lived...

Dorrington Road Infant and Junior School

My sisters name is Lesley and mine is Nicholas (nick) cook. In the Juniors we had Mr Aspinall as the head and I was in a class with a lad called little Peter. I left the Juniors in 1957 to go to Beeches road but my Sister would have left three or four years earlier to go to Canterbury girls...

Dorrington Road Infant and Junior School

Mrs Kirkham was the head of the infants when I was there and always conducted the singing using her arm as if it was a swans neck. She lived in a house on Rocky Lane which we always walked past on the way to the right of way that lead to Dewsbury grove where we lived, we always worried that she...

Coach Trip to Weston Super Mare

In the days before deregulation you were only allowed to stay on the route that your employer had registered for, this would have applied to all regular services such as the overnight scheduled ones. The traffic Commissioner would have granted the licences and woe betide you if you went off route.

Coach Trip to Weston Super Mare

I drove part time for Stocklands from 1966 to 1969, worked as a PSV mechanic for them from 1964 to mid 1967. I would have done the Weston and Cheddar day excursions but for the life of me can't remember where we stopped or the route we used. My favourite was the Friday night South Devon trip...

    Perry Beeches Secondary School

Have to disagree regarding Edge as he was definitely a bully. One example was when the head girl was brought up on stage during assembly and edge declared to all that she had let him and the school down by becoming pregnant, nowadays he would have ended up in court for his unprofessional...

When we visited our Nans house in Manchester in the fifties we always had a black currant tart from a cake shop named Wimbush (I think) they tasted wonderful especially the imitation cream.
