Drove past most working days along Bickenhill lane to Cheswick Green but never went in.

What Ford Cars Are These ?

Sneaking off thread slightly. My old boss at Claribell coaches, Ron Lees, had a Vauxhall Ventura which I used to take fuel out to one of his coaches broken down near Watford Gap services. Realising that I needed to get there quickly I wasn't too concerned how much petrol I used getting there...

Things must have been looking up going abroad on holiday, all we got was the chance of Bellbroughton and I couldn't go as we couldn't afford it. Presume the Teachers enjoyed their holiday though.

What Ford Cars Are These ?

Working for a Vauxhall dealer back in 1960 I can definitely confirm that Fords weren't the worst vehicles around at the time at least not for corrosion as Vauxhall were.

Happy Valley fishing in the Canal

Stickler backs and gudgeon were a real pain when you were hoping for roach. Never believed there were any roach until the locks drained out at Perry Barr then saw dozens of dead ones.

    Peculiar Problem

I expect what they loose if someone goes through with something they haven't scanned is more than made up by the checkout staff wages they'll have saved. Seems that many of the customers at my local Tesco using the self scan system are stopped and rechecked before leaving anyway which appears...

    Windows 10

Still trying to sort out why I can't get Defender to turn on. Don't have any other anti virus software which would prevent it from turning on just states that virus and threat protection managed by your organisation. I've gone in as administrator and tried to turn it on by following microft...

Certainly wouldn't have been me as I missed third year so went from second year straight to fourth ( 4L miss Lloyds class) then left June 1960.

    Renting Tellies

Started as trainee mechanic in1960 for the princely wage of 1/6d per hour, 48 hr week which included Saturday mornings. Mind you when my family were looking to move to Paignton the same year the wage there was 1/0d per hour. Sorry about wandering off thread.

Dorrington Road Infants & Juniors School

Looks like the Junior school in the background? It was at the Juniors where I had to black up to play a Golly in the school play and used soot which took a few days of hard scrubbing to remove.

Hello Mary. Would have been at the Juniors in 56 but moved to Beeches bug house in 58. I can remember the big white enamel jugs of cocoa we had in the infants as it always tasted of powder.

    Blundells of Aston

S&U and Times furnishing were our saviours when first married end 1970 as we had absolutely no savings and poorly paid jobs, thank goodness times changed for the better. I can remember when we moved into our rented flat in Water Orton and sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag, my soon to be...

    Renting Tellies

We rented our first VCR from Granada not long after they first came out and following the battle with Betamax. I can still remember the corded remote control which everyone tripped over. We rented our first black and white tv back in 1970 but can't remember where from. Our first colour set...

    Ex Pats and Brummies abroad

Moved to outskirts of Helston first time then more or less in town centre this time as living in the sticks meant having to use the car everytime we wanted to go anywhere.

    Ex Pats and Brummies abroad

Live in Cornwall now which I'm certain the Cornish believe is another country. Initially moved to Durham then Bramhall in Stockport then Cheshire then Cornwall followed by Torquay then back to Cornwall, that's it never again.

Certainly do. Bought it off a mate who had a car sales pitch on gravelly hill for £900 in 1968 and sold it in 1970 for £300 as I needed the money, bought a mini van instead. 145 mph down to 75 mph certainly helped slow me down.

    Is This Your Motor?

Would have been late fifties as I left Beeches rd in 1960, David was into everything but his surname was definitely Burrows. Presume Brooklyn Garage was on the left down the hill past the Tech ?

    Queens Head Steelhouse Lane

I remember the Italian Family who lived at No 34 the Fathers name was Bruno and his Daughter has posted on this Forum some years ago if I remember correctly, this would have been the last house before the Gully coming up Dewsbury. I left in 1970 but my Mother lived there a few years longer...

    Is This Your Motor?

Went to School with a lad who's Brother ran Brooklyn Garage his name was David Burrows. He spent a lot of his time repairing the headmasters car and I was extremely envious.
