    Washday Copper Boilers Mangles

    Do you mean the old copper boilers where the washing water was boiled on a Monday and Friday nights for baths? I remember one like that that some used to call a copper.It was connected to the mains with a rubber hose and you could have a deluxe one with a tap on to get the water out.

    Hi astonian, it was my mother in law who kept the Bulls Head, she would have taken it over I think around 1972/3 and kept it up until Ansells closed it in 1984 so the new road could be cut. The licensees' prior to her were the Cassidy's. Before Mother in law moved to the Bull she kept the Abbey...

    Just spotted this thread although it as year plus old but a very interesting read. By the way Jean I think the job title was a "Sagger makers bottom knocker" I think it was something to to with the pottery industry.
