£600 per year for your pubs site!! Ouch! ...but then I probably spend more than that each year just GOING to pubs! Haha!

    I am guessing 1850-60.

I found this map, but is uncredited, so am unsure of source, or year of publication. To the east of Icknield Street, one sees St Paul's Parish, and the area known Brookfields shows as All Saint's Parish. Almost nothing in Brookfields at this point, it is part of Birmingham Heath.

I found another item on this area. My map shows a workhouse, which was the new Birmingham workhouse, opened in 1852, located in Western Road. Has been demolished, and the land used as a car park for Dudley Road Hospital, now renamed City Hospital. View of workhouse area from west:

    Keith Berry

Was looking at a map of Brookfields, and noticed in the block between Camden, George, Ellen and Springhill Streets, was a malthouse. While looking up info on malthouses in general, came across a photo of a malthouse taken by Thomas Berry. Was he any relation to Keith Berry? Have found no...

Sadly, all of us are getting old. And the authors of these sites are also getting old. Bill Dargue, whose site is still up, passed away earlier this year. Mac Joseph, who gave us Old Ladywood, was last I heard, not well, and his site has gone. Keith Berry passed away, and some of his photos...

I I am looking at an old Staffordshire map, circa 1890. The area west of the Birmingham Canal, below Lodge Road is the "Borough Fever Hospital", and just below the canal is "Borough Smallpox Hospital". South of this, straddling Western Road, is the "Workhouse". Further south, between the...

    Keith Berry

I noticed that Keith Berry's photos were deleted from the internet when his account wasn't paid, even after being paid temporarily by Bill Dargue. Although some are now available through other links. How sad to lose Mr Berry. I have tried to find information about Keith himself. No biography...

Yes, it links to National Library of Scotland. You can buy paper maps by mail, or digital downloads, from various years.

Hi Nick, I am no expert either, and I don't wish to prove you wrong, because you are not wrong, and your opinion is valued. I said "loosely" because I was only speculating. Sometimes one area can be seen as part of another if it is cut off from its main part by a railway, motorway, river...

    George Street West

I would guess that loosely speaking, Brookfields would fall inside Western Rd, and City Fever Hospital in the west, Hockley Goods Yard and Pitsford Street in the North, Icknield Street in the east, and Cope Street in the south.
