I have had a look at the photo and yes I think it is Stephen James, I couldn’t have told you that, but he fits the name. Tony Hill is on the other side of me. Do you remember the Friday night disco? Think Spencer Davis Group was one of the bands at that time, Keep On Running, loved that song. I...

You have your hair coming forward in the pic and you are showing your pearly whites aren’t you David? I would say that one of the girls is Cecelia Pitt and although I recognise the girl the other side of you I couldn’t say whether it is Lynne Wilson. I remember going up to Great Barr Comp but...

    Perry Beeches Secondary School

Think I still have mine too Mary, the kids haven’t referred to my memory yet, in fact I try to impress them by repeating something to them that they told me months ago, especially their friends names and places they have been - or are they are just being kind to me and not telling me that I have...

Even better were the school photographs, all thanks to Harry for posting them. I found where you were standing in the pic, can’t believe that it...

    Birmingham 1960s

Hi Lilybaba, Just loved looking at these postcards. Bought back some long lost memories, Birmingham was the place to go in the 60’s and 70’s. All those shops and as you say they sold everything. Ah well happy days, I have no desire to go into Birmingham City Centre now, so much change there...

Black Country awarded UNESCO Geopark status

I can’t believe that we have this on our doorstop, loved watching the video. Thank you Pedrocut. We have done the walks through Dudley many times and since lockdown we have found some amazing scenery around the Saltwells in Netherton, you wouldn’t think you were in an industrial area. Jen

Black Country awarded UNESCO Geopark status

I am so excited about this award for the Black Country. My husband and I have taken our two grandsons to the area in Wrens Nest where you can see the result of what happened millions of years ago. The ‘vertical beach’ is amazing, showing the ripples of the sand etc., we always come back home...

    Soho Road Handsworth

Gosh RobT, so many memories flooding back. I think there was a strict rule of walking up the left side of the Market when entering, keeping to the left on the way round and so on to exit. Great pic. Thank you, Jen

    Soho Road Handsworth

Mom used to save up the pennies and buy one or two pieces of furniture from there. I think a bedroom suite that she had from there is still being used. Jen

    Soho Road Handsworth

Lovely, mwOnjm. I remember that it lay back further off the road than the other shops. Jen

    Soho Road Handsworth

I can remember the name Blundells, if I remember rightly it wasn’t far from the Market and on the same side of the road. I seem to think that Woolworths was actually on the Soho Road, on the opposite side of the Market. I bought my first Max Factor mascara from there, lovely blue colour. Had to...

    Soho Road Handsworth

Great looking at these OS Maps, Pedrocut. I lived in Sycamore Road near to Queens Head Road, in the 50’s. Remember mom working at the Capstan Works, she loved it there. Interesting looking at all of the roads. Soho Road was so exciting to me as a kid with 6d to spend on Saturday! Thank you, Jen

Memories : Tribute to old Birmingham

Maurice, Sorry Maurice I can’t recall the name of the shop. We lived in Handsworth so to go into town we travelled on the 74 bus which dropped us off at the top of Livery Street. It was a treat to walk through the arcade, which of course was opposite Livery Street. I was lucky enough to use one...

Memories : Tribute to old Birmingham

The Great Western Arcade was excitement for me when I was a youngster. It was a beautiful area to walk along, such lovely architecture above the shops. Every shop seemed so ‘posh’. Very different place now. Then when I was out and about, well into my teens, arranging to meet your friend for a...
