    Christmas in Brum

If Selfridge's had been built somewhere else beside more modern buildings with space around it I think it would have been considered spectacular. New structures should fit in with the existing architecture even if a more modern design. It is a shame the powers that be did not consider the plans...

Remember, Remember, the 5th of November.

I had forgotten about those matches Alf, as you say I haven't seen them in years. We get waterproof matches which now I think about it are similar. We have two firework nights a year here celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday and what is called Home Week. It amazes me how much is spent on...

History of the Apron ( might bring back some memories)

Thanks Chris, what would we have done if you hadn't decided to stay. x Rita I used to go in Hawkins as I worked at the General, I loved the smell of the new material and can still remember it when I go into Fabricland here. Some friends who came over a couple of years ago brought us a nice...

History of the Apron ( might bring back some memories)

Sorry Wendy, I do usually check before I post things especially birthdays and I didn't this time though. Checking is not fool proof either if we use a different name or phrase. Perhaps one of our experts can combine them. With so many new members maybe it doesn't hurt having some repeats as they...

History of the Apron ( might bring back some memories)

The History of 'APRONS' (do you still wear one) I don't think kids today even know what an apron is. The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she didn't have many and it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with...

Mike I always wondered what happened if you went over the top, I assumed they stayed upright. Glad I wasn't the only one that didn't like them. From what has been said here I guess there aren't any used now. We were used to using the stairs at the General as were not supposed to us the lifts...

    Where is This? 90

Was it Northfield or Selly Oak, even when we lived there some of the very old houses were that style. They were so expensive we couldn't afford to buy one, very tiny as well. By the tables it looks as though there might have been a market.Very nice picture. Mo That was my other thought as well...

    General Hospital Birmingham

Jenny - Some people on here may have been born at Loveday Street, just across the road from the general. That was also a very old building I had to go over from time to time. The place I hated to go was the dental hospital that had those lifts like boxes and you had to leap in or out as you went...

Those views are more familiar to me, as I walked arose the forecourt every day that is in your 2nd picture or I would go through emergency if I used the parking lot. I actually remember the trams although I don't remember when they stopped running. :) Mo (Photo replaced with what I think is the...
