    toll house at smethwick

No date, but a reference says "It was built as a project when Sandwell MBC (created in 1974) operated a building and construction training facility in the nearby Galton Valley centre."

    Fatal R.T.A.

It is now a painted 'Mini Island' where everyone has to (is supposed to) give way.

    Birmingham buses

When the City Transport was about to "One Man" the Inner Circle, the union objected saying that passengers would pay an incorrect (lower) fare for their journey required. The management replied that they didn't really care, as everyone would pay something whereas Conductors did not have time to...

The more recent toll house before it was vandalised. It is to be demolished I understand, soon if not already done.

    Birmingham buses

I did the Outer Circle a few times in my young days. Learnt (in a good way) about 'Class Difference', seeing the different districts and seeing & hearing the way people dressed and talked in those areas.

    Steam Locos

Restoring transport heritage is one (very good) thing, but replicas, whilst giving the experience of long-gone types is another, and the two must not be mixed up. The latter (and to a lesser extent, the former) are only going to be done if there is a sound business plan behind them - there has...

    Rhode car

Rhode is the make of car it was fitted to - note at the bottom of the face it says "Swiss made". Car makers don't make all the bits for their cars, a lot of parts are bought in from other suppliers. Is there any writing on the chassis of the mechanism, inside the case?

Skin and Lock Hospital John Bright Street

The term "lock hospital" originates from their use as leper colonies, in which the patients were kept locked in restraints.

    HS2 progress 2020 and beyond

I wonder if the "Euston" delay is a bit of a political move, to show that London is being affected as well as "the North"? I suppose we shall have to wait to see which of the two are eventually permitted to recommence construction. My money's on Euston.

    Sutton Park Station

The Wikipedia. page on the line includes: "In February 2008 it was announced that Birmingham City Council, Network Rail and Centro were launching a feasibility study to assess the possibility of re-opening the line to passenger services. In January 2015 the line was put on hold for reopening to...

    New Street Station From 1854 - 1966

As I understand it, the engine shed is Monument Lane and the "ticket platform" (where I suppose ticket collectors would board and check tickets, [NewStreet being an 'open station' without barriers]) for a short while became Edgbaston Station. See...
