Re: Was there a cinema near Ethel St/New Street Don't know if anyone has replied but it was the ABC I used to go there to see press screenings, and met Bert Kwok on one occasion he's a really nice bloke. The Chinese community used to take it over on a Saturday night for Chinese films. It also...

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

1967 through until 1978 all over the town centre both for Teds and Vincents. I did sell ice cream from a barrow in the summers of 1975 and '76. One thing I always remember that happened that springs to mind with Barry that I will never forget. I had finished work and met up with some of the...

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

It's strange how a comment out of the blue can affect you, I had no idea he had died, and I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. I knew Erskine T and he was responsible for much of my love of music from the States, bands that were never heard of over, yet he would pull an LP out and say you've...

    Old street pics..

That looks like the area my Step-Sister lived in. She and her family lived in St Martins Street of the top of Broad Street. There was a Post Office on the corner that became a strip club in later life. I can always remember visiting them it as a one down two up with a tiny kitchen. Toilets...

    Elmdon Airport Birmingham International Airport

I worked at Elmdon for a short time in the late 60's and I was nearly blown over by the back wash from an Air France Super Constellation. In the late 60's the police at Elmdon were not part of the Birmingham Police.

Tavern in the Town and The Mulberry Bush Pub Bombings

I used to drink in the Tavern in the Town every evening but that evening I didn't have enough money so I gave it a miss and kept on working. When it reopened as the Yard of Ale it didn't have the same atmosphere as the Tavern.

The best thing since sliced bread.

There was another barrow on the corner of Bull Street and Temple Row and they were both owned by the same company, who also owned the hot dog barrows.

Tavern in the Town and The Mulberry Bush Pub Bombings

I have some photos of the aftermath of the damage to the Rotunda some where. I was in Corporation Street/Cherry Street when the bombs went off. I felt the ground move and then people were running past me then the sound of the emergency services arriving and a police cordon being put across...

    Items that have faded away

Simple reason is that a lot of people didn't have fridges so, to stop the milk going off it was sterilised to allow it to keep for longer. Sterilised milk was mainly a Midlands thing and if you wanted to buy it in places like Bournemouth you would have to order it, and then only a few companies...
