    Canals under Threat

If you meant by the flow in the canals, there isn't much, and the levels rise and fall through the use of locks. High points have to be kept filled by reservoirs fed by local water supplies, so the furthest any water would travel would only be from the nearest high point reservoir to the...

From Birmingham to Liverpool by coach in the 1960s

The companies would be Ribble Motor Services, its subsidiary Standerwick; North Western Road Car; and Midland Red. For detailed information (Timetables etc) try contacting The Bus Archive ( https://www.busarchive.org.uk/contact-us.shtml )

    Canals of Birmingham

Nature always finds its way back, unless there is regular maintenance. Is the greenery on the far bank covering a towpath?

    Birmingham buses

Although the producer gas is made by blowing air through burning anthracite, I've never heard of it exploding. Why it doesn't burn in the pipes I don't know, perhaps some knowledgeable scientist can enlighten us!

    Zero Emission Buses

Almost gone from human memory now, but Birmingham ran zero-emission buses from 1922 to 1951. (I know the naysayers will remind us of the coal fired electricity generating stations, but they were not in the city centre).

    Birmingham buses

Some of the Conquests saw further use after Birmingham, a few lasting till after the war. No. 57 seen below was running for Mason (Seagull Coaches) of Blackheath when photographed, and is the one shown in original condition above.

    Birmingham buses

They had originally been normal control vehicles (Driver behind the engine) for one man operation to replace the lightly trafficked Bolton Road trams, but legislation changed regarding OMO buses prohibiting over 30 passengers, so they all went back to Guy Motors in Wolverhampton and were...

Only after operation passed from the Corporation to WMPTE did the 8 & 11 get "A" & "C" suffixes to denote Anticlockwise and Clockwise.

    Electric Trams

Another Ray Coxon photo of 342 at Bearwood, almost certainly taken at the same time. That's his bike propped up by the kerb, far right - it often appeared in his photos.

    Electric Trams

You are quite right. The transport committee decreed that buses should not carry adverts, although trams could. The tramway closure in 1953 ended a very necessary source of income, so the instruction was ended a short while after. Perhaps previously buses were for a better class of passenger?

    HS2 progress 2020 and beyond

What's OK, that no new construction is approved? Our railways, motorways, hospitals and schools enter a stasis for the next century or so? At least tax can be reduced if there's nothing new to pay for.

    The challenges of Building Railways

If you look at the difference in time and relative cost of building the original railways compared to HS2 (for instance), you must also look at the methods involved. Labour was cheap, there was no dole so those needing money to live had to work for pittance pay. there were skilled engineers who...

    HS2 progress 2020 and beyond

I think every 'national construction plan's cost is deliberately under estimated, be it railway, motorway, hospital, school or whatever. if the true cost were to be announced at the outset, absolutely nothing would get approved.
