    Birmingham buses

I know it as 'gear change pedal'. The selector is the lever on the steering column to select which gear you want next. See https://daimlerandlanchester.com/how-to-drive-a-pre-selector/

    The Australian Bar

Alfred John Rothwell is there in the 1911 census, he himself names it the 'Australian Bar' as the address, at 47 Bromsgrove Street (I assume the living quarters are there, and the pub frontage is on Hurst Street. In 1901 he is a "Brass Cock Turner" (presumably lathe work!) living at 2 house, 12...

    Save Birmingham communuty places nominations

I wonder if any councillors, or officers of the council, are directors of the entity that just sold it? Not suggesting any of them are, of course..... But 260% is a nice profit in just three years. Meanwhile the BCC goes bankrupt because it fails to comply with the Equal Pay Act 1970...

    Airships over Birmingham ?

"The recently retired Spirit of Innovation....... In its 11-year tenure, it logged 5,818 flights for a total of 33,938 flight hours." Hmmm. There's only just over 4000 days in 11 years.....and just over 48,000 hours of daylight. It sure was busy!

    Airships over Birmingham ?

There are (were?) four of them. The Goodyear Blimp flying in Europe is operated by Zeppelin and based in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The remaining three airships operate out of bases in the U.S., in Pompano Beach, Florida, Carson, California and near Akron, Ohio - the home of the Goodyear Tire and...

    Midland Red Bus Routes

The advantage of the rope (Walsall used them as well) was they were wherever the need was - no looking up & down the bus (above the windows on BCT, in the ceiling for Midland Red) to find one!

    Midland Red Bus Routes

The pre war buses used metal stencils for route numbers, but there were only 2 of each number in the box housing them so 111, 222, 333 etc did not exist. The only exception was for 6 and 9, where one stencil could be used for either and there were three of them so 666 or 999 was possible. There...

    Zero Emission Buses

Already have, Eric. I have a friend who works for Switch Mobility (https://www.switchmobilityev.com/en) and can get a glimpse into the market through him.

    Zero Emission Buses

Transport companies operating lorries and buses often lease tyres, paid for on a mileage and time basis. The same could be done for batteries, saving on immediate purchase cost and the problem to the operator of 'end of life' disposal of them and their chemical content.

    Sylvia Low Level Coaches

Looking for any information about this company, please. The vehicle illustrated is a Daimler with a 1921 registration, but might be an old WW1 army lorry chassis - many ended up as buses & coaches. I can't find them listed in phone books of the period, and the advert gives no indication of the...

From Birmingham to Liverpool by coach in the 1960s

A bit early for me, I was coach driving from 1975 for Midland Red whose coach services by then were part of the National Express network, and were going over to the white livery. Ribble (and Standerwick) coaches were cream and red, a reversal of their bus livery of red & cream. North Western...
