    Steam Locos

I thought about the brake coach being in the middle, but it suits situations where the loco runs round the train at an outer terminal to run back the other way. It would seem pointless to have a brake / guards compartment next to the engine.

    Birmingham buses

The one at Harborne is a German Dourkopp, in service with a forerunner of the Midland Red sometime between 1904-7. Birmingham no. 62 was an AEC, very similar to the London General 'S' type, and the one at Selly Oak is a Daimler, one of a small fleet operating feeder services from Rednal, Rubery...

    Lewis's Department Store

I quite agree, but zoos than were more for the entertainment of the public, not the protection of the animals - as were circuses.

    Midland Red

How it was done - all of the post-war single deckers in existence so far were rebuilt with an extension to the rearmost bay of the body (and bolt-on rear chassis extensions) and seat spacings adjusted to fit an extra row of seats.

    Railways in/close to/associated with Birmingham

So the New Street to Euston line was modernised and electrified and the Snow Hill route abandoned and the station demolished. Way to go, BR!

    Smethwick

Surprised? No. It happens too frequently to be unusual. The fact that it was grade ll listed, and the site would be more valuable without the building says it all. Owners who do not protect listed buildings against arson & vandalism should be prosecuted

Help them to warm up quick / stay warm in cold weather. Some later makes have shutters that open and close automatically according to the water temperature (and invariably jam closed c ausing overheating!) Most post-WW2 Midland Reds had saloon heaters as did a few earlier ones so the more heat...

The Municipal Bank (as such) opened in October 1919, and some of the trams were older than that so it must have been a 'retrofit' in modern' speak! It is possible that not all cars had it, I have only photographs as memories.
