hello maple, in response to your enquiry, i was in 1964 growing up in aston and i think that maybe from 63/69 were the best years of my life, although it was cosidererd to be a 'poor area' of the city there was no problem with obtaining work so most families had a member of the family in full...

the saddlers was situated between franchise st and birchfield rd school.

i remember fowler's very well, on the corner of grosvenor rd/ alfred st,she later moved across the road just down from the grosvenor pub.

you can see the croodile works, cowper st school, and the geach public house. and in the foreground is the bartons arms, and the back of the aston hip.

sorry cookie, the queens was on the corner of queens rd and church LANE, and yes they did join up further on at the junction with sycamore rd.
