Sadly mother in law is in hospital at the moment. I live in Cambridge but cannot visit due to the fact that I am over 65 so due to infections I am not allowed into the ward!. However her niece and nephew are with her and text constantly. I have sent a letter (she is deaf too and cannot hear...

    Church Road, Yardley.

Not got any photos but I know exactly which houses you are thinking about. I have asked mother in law who lives in Newcroft. I think they may have been build very early in the 1970's but I have always known them to be there! The house in Church Road on the corner used to belong to a plumber...

Pte Henry Perrow Kia 19/7/1917. S mall Heath

By the way the 1901 census shows Albert Birch as being a Boarder with Margaret Perrow. Margaret has a M (for married) but she is the Head so no husband with her. She is living in Windsor Rd, Aston. As Henry J (father) appears on the 1891 census - what happened to him?

    BSA Armoury Road Small Heath.

My dad worked at the BSA, mainly in Montgomery Street, as a packer. He worked there for 25 years, sadly died in 1974. He was a Shop Steward. Remember hearing a few stories about the BSA over the years, - how the company got the opportunity to make washing machines but management said they...

    Belchers Lane Bordesley Green

We used to go to Belcher's Lane Playing Fields from our school in Bordesley Green too. My brother went to Saltley Grammar so I used to walk down and meet him at home time. Are they still there or have they been built on yet?

Did you know that Doreen Boot/Lloyd married again in 1968?

    Joan Sally Lloyd

There is an entry on the 1939 register for Henry Lloyd, married, looks like his DOB was April but the whole entry has been crossed through, however there is also Doreen M Lloyd (Lloyd crossed and Craddock entered later) born 5 April 2014 and Joan Sally Lloyd (Lloyd crossed through and Hacking...

    Joan Sally Lloyd

There is a birth registration for Henry Lloyd in Lichfield in 1913. Mother's maiden name was Foster. However I cannot see a marriage between a Lloyd and Foster in Lichfield. Should be able find Henry on the 1921 census.

    Help identifying where in Birmingham

Thar car is an Austin Cambridge or could be a Woolsley but by the colour scheme I think it is a Cambridge. I looked in the 1969 Kelly's but nothing for W H Taylor, Fashion Jewellery and Electrical Fittings, but I think this photo is probably a little younger than 1969, maybe in the 1970's.

    fish and chip shops

Does anyone know what has happened to the Chip Shop that was at the Yew Tree (Yardley)? It closed "for renovations" and we were told it would take six weeks. That was way back in February. In fact I think it closed way before that.

    Private Message or Conversation

Well I am note sure if I am doing this right! Each time I click on my user name, whether it be in the top right corner, or on the purple S, all I get is a list asking how I want to open the file (link new window etc, that's right click) and left click does not give me the box that you showed me...

    Private Message or Conversation

I cannot see anywhere that shows me where or how to send a PM. I have tried opening my name in the top right corner of the screen but there is no option for sending a PM. Can someone explain how I start a conversation please?

The photo is of the newsagent's that was run by my mother-in-laws father. She lived above the shop in the flat. The car that is parked outside belonged to MIL's sister in law.

    Church Road, Yardley.

There is another thread on Church Road. Mother in Law has lived just around the corner for most of her life. I lived in Wroxton Road and remember My Vaughn (and his daughter). MIL's brother still lives in Church Road and has been there for most of his life too (he is late 80's now)

    Digbeth Institute (Civic Hall)

Yes, the Jug o' Punch. Run by Ian Campbell and his folk group. The club moved to Carrs Lane, and then to Kings Heath for a short time. Sorry to say I missed Paul Simon who appeared there in the early 1960's. I only remember Lorna singing her "contemporary" Joni Mitchel song, then Adrian Henri...

I used to go to the Folk Club that was held in the room at the back of the hall. I think there is a thread about the Hall and the Folk club on this forum somewhere.
