I've tried again and just cannot attach a photo to my message. so I give up! I have a photo of my husband's step grand-father in his WW1 uniform. (He was born in Scotland) I would like to know the regiment he was in. The badge on his hat looks like two rifles crossed with a crown on the top...

I can't find a Dolly and Edith on the same census return, although I found a couple of birth registrations for Dolly 1898 Walsall and Edith 1897 Walsall. Elsie was resigiestered in 1900 in Aston. (If these are the right ones). Unless anyone else comes up with anything I would suggest you get...

The brownie guide pack of birmingham

I have been intersted to read about the Brownies and your experiences. Also it is sad that packs are closing in Birmingham. I live in Cambridge now and have just taken my last session with Rainbows. After two years I decided to hand over to someone else. I was never involved with the Guiding...

We have talked about these underground corridors before on the Lewis's thread. My Aunty-in-Law worked for Lewis's and she always said that there was underground corridors that went from the basement of Lewis's to the General Hospital. As you talk about the top of Colmore Row, we are going in...

    Church Road, Yardley.

According to mother-in-law, the "pavement" is actually a public highway so it might be difficult to get permission for tables outside. Apparently some of the shops started putting advertising boards out (you know the free-standing, two sided ones) then had to remove them as they were actually...

    Church Road, Yardley.

We were in Yardley last week-end visiting mother-in-law in Newcroft Grove. The wallpaper shop is just the same. Has anyone heard of the plans for the old Woolworths? Wetherspoons are interested, they want to put tables and chairs out on the front.

    Walters George B.1856

Re: George Walters B.1856 Are you sure it is your George who died in 1915? There is another George who died in 1915 age 38 (Birmingham). I cannot find any entries on the 1901 that fits your dates, I found Evelyn Daisy's birth registration in 1907 but cannot find her on the 1911 census. As...

    Yardley Village

does anyone remember the name of the family who lived in the farm (which I think is at the back of the Smithy) in the ealry 1970's. Their son used to come to the Ringers with us on Friday nights. I think he might have been a car mechanic.

    Yardley - Vera Road

I think the numbers of the houses demolished are now numbers 19 and 21. Looking at the detatched house, the bricks above the door don't quite meet, number 23 has the same pattern. Also the two houses to the right, numbers 15 and 17 have a different window design. I am sure there will be...

    Yardley - Vera Road

Are these photos the same incident? Might sound a silly question but in the second photo, the house on the right looks like a detached property (judging by the roof line) but in the first picture it looks as if the buidling next door is a set of semi's.
