    School Board Man

I took a day off school and went to visit my cousin who lived in Herbert Road as she had a day off too. We took our roller skates and were skating around the front of the Post Office on Coventry Road (there was a lovely big flat area - perfect for skating) when the School Board Man saw us. We...

    Castle Vale

Around 1962/63 our school (Cherrywood in Bordesley Green) used Castle Vale as our sports field. We went by bus and went in from Chester Road. We used to get changed in old huts.

The William Tyler at the Yew Tree

Mother in Law (lives at the back of the William Tyler) tried to find out why there are archers each side of the name, but the person she spoke too at Weatherspoons didn't know (he was very nice though and sent her a voucher for a complimentary drink!) MIL likened the archer to Robin Hood...

The William Tyler at the Yew Tree

I can't open the photo. I get a screen asking for log in and password but I keep getting a message telling me that I don't exist or my log in failed! What am I doing wrong? I am now "currently banned from using the site" Probably because I have tried too many times.

    HUnt

I think Gertrude is 7 not 17, there is a mark on the census which looks like a 1, but I don't think it is. I did have a quick look for birth registrations but couldn't find anything obvious. If you obtain the birth certificate for Doris Lilian Goodyear it will give the monther's maiden name.

    HUnt

Arthur is listed on the 1901 and 1891 census as being born in Norton, Gloucestershire. Lillian is listed on the 1901 as being born in Thrapstron on Stour, Worcs. I think that should be Shipston on Stour. In 1891 Arthur is working in Shipston, so that is possibly where they married. Can't find a...

    Church Road, Yardley.

That's a great photo. I was there last week visiting Mother in Law. I did post this query on another thread but think this is probably a better place to ask: Does anyone remember what was on the corner of Church Road and Blakemere Avenue before the Laundry?

The William Tyler at the Yew Tree

Many thanks for that info Albion. Now I need to ask if anyone can remember what was on the corner of Blakemere Avenue and Church Road Yardley, before the laundry. I'm told Tyler's Tiles used to have a place there, whether it was just a shop or a small factory, I've no idea. (I bet Len would...

The William Tyler at the Yew Tree

The old Woolworths Building at the Yew Tree is going to be a Wetherspoons. Apparently it was going to be called The Swan but the notice of the name didn't last long before it was changed to William Tyler. Has anyone any idea who William Tyler was and, if such a person existed what his...

My Mother in Law left Bierton School in 1943. She has been told that it is due for demolition and that there is going to be a photo shoot ouside the school sometime in November. Does anyone know anything about it?

    Lea Family

There is a marriage registration in June qtr 1974 Birmingham - Thomas Lea to Ann Evans. This is the only one I can find that may fit as their first child on the 1891 census was born about 1874.

    Christine Perfect

I searched for Christine and found two sites giving her biography, one saying born in Lancashire, the othr Birmingham. However I see she was bought up in Birmingham as her father (not a doctor) was a lecturer in music at St Peters College, just around the corner from where I lived.

    Christine Perfect

I am sure Christine Perfect came from Birmingham. She was the amazing singer with Chicken Shack and Fleetwood Mac. Her father was a Doctor.

    Which regiment?

Great that you are all taking such an interest in this photograph. I am having difficulty finding out anything about Archie.

Marriage lookup please: 1890 Harris/ Hornby.

The marriage was registered in Aston. If no-one comes up with anything, the only option would be to send for a married certificate. This will give you the info (and more) that you are looking for.

    Which regiment?

He was definately born on 1 April 1901 so perhaps he did give the wrong age when he joined up. I cannot see any more detail on the badge - managed to attach the picture though so you all may see something that I can't. I know little about him but am seeing a member of the family this...

    Which regiment?

The badge on the left arm has MS and what looks something like a laurel leaf.

    Which regiment?

I don't think he lived in Birmingham during WW1. His name was Archibald Flockhart Hepburn. He was born 1 April 1901 in Scotland. All I know is that he was a policeman in Birmingham till he death. He used to be "on the beat" in and around Belchers Lane in the 1950's. I have two...
