    C & A Modes Corporation street

I was a "Saurday Girl" in 1966 as I was still at school. I worked on the ground floor in skirts. I remember Miss Winspear but I don't know what her position was. My mom used to work at C&A (coats an' 'ats!) in the mid-40s and Miss. Winspear worked at C&A then. I don't think C&A was actually...

    Smith - Smith marriage 1851

You may have to think about buying a copy of the marriage certificate. I did look on the 1841 census but there are too many Maria Smith's to know which is the correct one. The marriage certificate will give you address at time of marriage, occupation and both father's names and occupations.

    Crowthers Boutique

I don't remember the anme Crowthers, but I remember the shop very well. I bought a wonderful pink skirt with buckles each side from there. It was definately on a corner somewhere in Corporation Street. It was a lovely shop and I wonder if it was in the building which is now the Alliance and...

    High Street, Saltley

Was the "junk" shop the one opposite the newsagents which I think was called Copes, (used to get needles for the wind up gramophone from there). If it was I used to go to school with the son from that shop. Can't remember his name but I am sure he had ginger hair!

I haven't been able to find anything on the 1911 census. Thinking about my own grandparents I can tell you that they never married but my nan took grand-dad's name and all the children (8 of them) were registered in his name. As your dad was Leslie James and his brother also James, it stands a...

314004, William George Eaton, 1/1 Warickshire Heavy Battery, RGA

The only birth registration I can find of a William Eaton (no mention of George) is in the June Qtr of 1890 in Birmingham. Seems too late to be your Wiliiam if he was born at the end of October 1889. I also looked for a George Eaton but found nothing at all. Where did you find his birth date?
