Sorry my reply went before I finished. I was saying in my Kelly's 1968-69 Mrs. D Gleeson, Beer Retailer lived at 55 Alum Rock Road. 57/59 was Mr Leonard A Clarke Outfitter. In between 55 and 57 was Reginald Road. In 1963 Leonard is listed at 57 as an electrical engineer, 59 as an outfitter...

    Co-Op, Stoney Lane, Yew Tree

I see now. I know the Yew Tree very well (used to live off Church Road and mother in law has lived at the back of "Woolworths" for 60 years!), but not that bit of Stoney Lane, never had much reason to go down that way.

    Bombing of Ash Road Saltley

I lived in the flats at 55 Ash Road. They were built around 1950 and then demolished in the 70s I think. There were 3 blocks in all, numbers 55, 53 and 51. I worked at Mrs. Cutts, the grocer down the bottom of Ash Road, not too far from the junction with Adderley Rd.

Arthur Burt Born abt1825 Edgbaston did he emigrate in 1850

Arthur was baptised on the 11th March 1825 in St. Phillips. The 1851 census shows him living with his parents William and Mary - plus brothers George, Arthur, Edmund and Charles and sister Julie. The address was Hagley Road and his father was a Hardware Merchant. So Arthur was still in the UK...

    Saltley & Alum Rock

I don't remember a school next to the Rock picture House, but I do know Mr. Hinks. He was at Adderley Junior School. He used to take the "top class" which was housed in the room with the fire escape upstairs. Our nature walks consisted of a walk around the streets of Saltley collecting...

    Saltley & Alum Rock

The school I went to was called Adderley Infants, the back entrance was in Adderley Road but the front was in St. saviours Road. I think it is called St. Savious School now isn't it? The juniors was on the corner of Adderley and Arden Roads. I started school about 1956 in the Infants and then...

    Steelhouse lane

I started work in January 1967 at a solicitors office in Fountain Court, Steelhouse lane. I worked there for about 5 years. As I was the Office Junior I had to deliver and pick up documents from both the Law Court and the County Court so I walked many times up Newton Street to the courts in...

    Nettlefolds Limited

A friend of mine lives on the Moor Pool estate in Harborne. The estate was the idea of John Nettlefold. I visited Winterbourne House some time ago. Well worth the visit. (My father in law worked for a company called Brook Tool Automation which, I think, was eventually bought out by GKN.)...

    Bankruptcy in 19th century

If he was from Birmingham then perhaps you could look in the archive of the local papers. Sure if it was mentioned in the nationals it would perhaps give more details in the locals.
