    Conway School Sparkbrook

My mom born 1929, went to Conway Road School. I remember her telling me that the girls used to have to go to "a big house" to learn how to clean. This was one of the lessons.

    Church Road, Yardley.

The shop that Italian Nonna was asking about was on the corner of Patrick Road and Croft Road, Yardley. I used to live in Garretts Green and caught the number 17 bus to work every day. It went up Hob Moor Road. My mom bought a small book case from Russells, the furniture store that used to be...

ItaliaNona - The shop was knows as Mrs. Dales. Mrs. Dale owned it. Do you know Yardley well? My mother in law has lived there all her life. Haven't seen her for almost 12 months though as we don't live in Birmingham.

    Bombing of Ash Road Saltley

Fashionz You must remember Mrs. Cutts and her shop very well. She was a little lady with glasses. She used to keep all the money from the shop and every six months or so she used to dress up in her finest and get a taxi to go to the bank.

Just received an email advising me that my TV Licence was not renewed (in March) because my payment process did not work, so could I please renew immediately! I have the license from March and there was no problem with the payment - so beware of this latest scam.

    Barlows of Birmingham

Barlows was on the corner of Barwick Street and Edmund Street. I used to work next door in Edmund Street. This was from 1975 - 1980 and Barlows was still there then. The whole building has been changed now and I think the number of the building has too.

    Montgomery Street

in 1967 there is an Emily Austin at 26 Chain Walk, Lozells Ward. Is this the Chain Walk you want? I cannot see anyone else in 1967 with the names you mention. The last census you can view is 1911. You wont see the 1961 for at least another 40 years.

The 1881 census lists Caroline Nix as Caroline Nicks or Caroline Mason living with John and her father in Staniforth St. Birmingham, along with two sons John and Walter. Do you have the census information?

I remember Graham at Adderley. He used to walk up Arden Road with us at home time. Ask him if he remembers Jeanette Wade or Ian Sitch or Susan Newport. My brother was a friend of Alan Whalley and Alan Fry, he is 18 months older than I am. I wonder is Graham remembers me and also Susan...
