    New Birmingham library plans

I thought the same as Lyn,that Eastside was looked at for the new library - would have been better siuaied there, could go with the other eyesores they have put there like Millenium Point, would have spoilt Curzon Street Station, but still been better than where it is now in my opinion. Sue

    Bomb damage photos of WW2

Is the Vincent Street in post 34 the same one that is classed as Sparkbrook in the 1939 electoral rolls? The reason I ask is that mom was bombed out from Vincent Street Sparkbrook in 1940 and looking at the poics, I think I can spot my nan and Uncle Stan on them - they lived at 90 Vincent...

    Marston Hall Marston Green Bickenhill

It was knocked down in the 80's, but I think it was only parts of the hall that were listed, not the whole building - I'm sure someone will correct me if thats wrong - but have no idea what happened to any listed parts. I have e-mailed a friend who was keen on Marston Green history to see if she...

Cazap, welcome to the forum, if there is a particular pic you wanted, try starting a thread and ask if anyone has one, sometimes the original poster can re post a hacked one, lots of members are doing just that to replace pics on threads, but it all takes time and some of the members are sadly...

    Think Tank

Sounds great, but sadly out of a lot of families pockets with the current situation - for myself and Owen, it would cost over £20 admission alone and have to admit that last time we took him, it was truly abysmal - at least 40%of the exhibits were out of use, the same with the toilets, the cafe...

    My Partner Tony

Patty, sorry to hear of your loss, but pleased that you have many happy memories right to the end and special places to visit. The Cold War

Mike glad your mom is holding her own, must be frustrating for her as well as the family. There is a good exhibition about the Cold War featuring some of the planes at the RAF museum in Cosford, I learnt a lot from it! Sue

    Guest Philip Henry.

Re: Guest Pkilip Henry. Lynne, on find my past there is a death for a Philip Guest in Birmingham in 1910 - that would fit with Mikes electoral roll findings and explain why you can't see him after 1901 census. Death 1910, Apr/May/Jun qtr, 6d 21. Thereis also a Forces record which seems to fit...

Things you said when you was a kid

Anvil man, mom and dad refer to holes in socks - toes or heels - as taters too. See how Bonny trots in Staffordshire was a reference to how much delivery work the pony could/would do in a day, when the owner was paid by how much load was moved, sometimes clay , sometimes finished goods, the more...

    Birmingham 1964 Footage

Hi APS. welcome to the site. I can remember traffic going up Corporation Street, so it must have done so until fairly recently - when I did my training at Selly Oak the buses went up not down, I'm sure someone on the forum will tell us when it changed!! Thanks horsencart for posting the clip. Sue
