    1st touch on a Computer

Just out of interest, and maybe to help users, without giving personal information, how do people record passwords? I record mine on a Word document, the name of which doesnt mean anything to anyone else, and password protect it. Not perfect, but better than nothing and certainly better than...

    National Service

Coming back to RBL, I have been a member for over 20 years but our local branch here is the most active I have come across. We have a Pipes and Drums section and an Irish Wolfhound as a mascot, do great service.

    Birmingham City Transport memorial

I spent a lot of my childhood at the Transport Sports ground in Wheelers Lane, my father worked as a maintenance plumber in the bus garages.

    1st touch on a Computer

Even as recent as 2007 I was training staff at the Company I worked for on old computer systems that didn't use a mouse. My first instruction was always don't go for the mouse but it was surprising how many people just went for it by instinct. It was a completely different way of thinking. They...

    Shot at dawn

If you read the book Blindfold and Alone by Willson and Corns you will see it wasn't all that the myths make out. Some of the men executed were guilty of other crimes, murder and rape included. However, some certainly should not have been executed. I visited Ocean Villa cafe on the Somme run by...

    The Moat Yardley

I lived near the park, visited lots. I believed the dips were to do with AA guns during world war 2. Could be wrong on that as I was also told they were bomb craters.

Patrick Road & Vera Road in Yardley, Birmingham

I lived in Patrick Road from 1975 until 1993, happy days, lovely area then. The houses were built by Dares and I believe Vera was the company owners wife and Patrick his son.

    Cockshut Hill School

I remember now. Next time in in the UK I am planning to visit Patrick rod, look for the bomb damage. I lived there all those years and never knew. Not sure what colour his hair was

    Cockshut Hill School

Yes, thats the man. In those days we didnt really worry about people like him, lots of people had problems from the war. Not the same now. I am not sure if we spoke before Eddie, but at one time I lived in Patrick Rd, lovely houses and road then, 1975 until 1993.

    Cockshut Hill School

I went to Cockshut Hill for my infants and my first two years of juniors, probably 1954 to 1957. It then became just a Senior school and I had to transfer to Blakenhale. Does anyone remember Frank the strange man that used to stare through the railings and we would all run away from.

    Uniforms of WW1

To be truthful it well could be as we know he was in South Africa. I am trying to find a way to date the picture.

    Uniforms of WW1

Yes, a very sad story. It must have been awful for Thomas senior to lose his son at such a young age. It is believed Thomas Reginald was 15 when he volunteered, underage and his father was overage when he volunteered. I wonder how many times that happened.

    Uniforms of WW1

I am sorry, I should have put in my original post that in 1911 he was registered as living in Abertillery and not in the Army. He then volunteered in 1915 aged 44. I believe his total army service amounted to less than 4 years so that is why I am confused that he has 3 stripes.

    Uniforms of WW1

Following help from various members of BHF I have been able to confirm the attached picture is of my Great Grandfather Thomas Brickell, and that he died after being gassed in 1916. He was 46 when he died and we believe he had served in the 2nd Boer War. Can anyone provide information concerning...

    World War 1 family query

I have received more information regarding the sad story of my Great Grandfather and his son. It appears that both were living in South Wales when they went into the army and the younger went in the Cheshire Regiment. Would that be normal for someone living in one area to go in a regiment from...

    Old street pics..

Those pictures of the 1937 Coronation are brilliant. The way Birmingham was decorated was superb. I never had any idea that went on.

Chamberlain Square - The Changing Face

I come back to UK about every 6 months and usually visit centre of Birmingham. I would like to see statues etc as mentioned in the previous post especially in the area around Chamberlain square. You know what it's like, as I walk around I pass things but never realise what I am missing.

The Non-famous Music Scene In Birmingham

I remember Colin Willets from when he played in a band at Horrell Road social club, Sheldon, around 1965. I believe Colin lived local. He had a guy on guitar, played a Gibson Barney Kessel, rare instrument and expensive. Strange what you remember.
