Memories of a Birmingham Musician (Drummer)!

I have read this thread with interest and I wonder if anyone can assist. When I lived in Knowle I was a member of the British Legion there ( I am a member in Spain too). I was good friends with a keen jazz musician, saxaphone if i remember, called Alan Jaeger. Does anyone have musical memories...

    Birmingham in 1970s

I remember around the time of the power cuts inflation was running so high that everyone had regular pay rises to compensate. Every few weeks my pay went up, or am I imagining it?

    Southalls factory

I think that 1920 picture is the side road off Alum Rock rd, entrance to offices when I worked there. Can anyone comment please?

Tudor Grange, Solihull - former home of Alfred Bird

Norfolk brummie, not really history of Birmingham but still nice to remember good times. The Vaults in Knowle is part of the building that was originally owned by Midland Bank, hence the nightclub name Bank House and now the Vaults. The HSBC building near was one of the original Midland Bank...

Tudor Grange, Solihull - former home of Alfred Bird

Norfolk Brummie, your post takes me back, I spent many a good evening in the Bank House, although it was sometimes called something else lol. When back in Knowle I still go in but nowadays it is a good real ale pub, The Vaults.

Old flats on Washwood Heath Rd 1980's

The same is happening here, british style bars closing all the time. Mind you, a decent brandy in supermarket costs £6.27 a litre, bottle of wine £3.22 so no real surprise.

    Stonebridge Hotel

The road at the front of that picture is the slip road from the A45 down to the island below the flyover, not the main A45. I can remember the Hotel as being like that, with slight modifications , for at least 30 years, maybe more.

Patrick Road & Vera Road in Yardley, Birmingham

That picture takes me back. I lived in Patrick road from 1976 to 1993 and must have walked up the hill from Moat Lane hundreds of times. Also I grew up in Garretts Green lane so passed that junction on the bus when I was young.

    Stour St Ladywood

Thanks for helping Astonian but I have never been to Stour St. As I said, I am going through my late fathers papers, he would be 94 now, and found the address when he left the army. He went in 1940 and I am interested in his background and wondered where he had lived. I will be thinking tomorrow...

    Stour St Ladywood

As I have had a few days to myself recently I decided to go through some old documents relating to my deceased father. One of these is a form indicating he was transferred to the Army Reserve in 1946. This gives his address as Park Place, Stour St, Ladywood, Birmingham. Anyone have an idea...
