    Onion Fair

One of the guys that worked the shooting stall used to lodge at my Gran and Grandads on Holte Road. Whenever Dad (as a young lad) went to his shooting stall, he would be directed to a “good” gun, which rather suggests the guns certainly weren’t set up so you could hit the targets. The coconuts...

Aston, Lozells & Witton Photos Reposted thanks to Ray Griffiths...

My interest in the stretch of Park Road near the junction with Victoria Road stems from my being born above the sweet shop at 107. So that’s why I’m keen to source any photos as this section of street no longer exists.

Yes it confirms what I suspected. My mother’s sweet shop (O A Chapman) was at 107 next door to the decorators.

    Moseley The pyramid Riders motorcycle.

Hi, My Dad Dennis Chapman was a member of the Pyramid Riders. On 4th June 1950 16 members of the club set out to climb Snowdon. 15 made it. One had a burnt out clutch. I know they took a photo at the summit holding aloft the two 123cc bikes. If anyone has that photo I’d love to see it.

I’d not heard about that before. I do know the Prices/Chapmans had strong links to the fair. They were very friendly with Josephine and Albert Hedges and Annie Rogers and Alf Farmer who spent their honeymoon night at 49.

I was a bit confused by the ICI/IMI relationship. Dad has just explained that before the war the ICI (Imperial Chemical company) was formed by a consortium and that was what that part of the company was called when my Gran first worked there, but after the war it became known as IMI (The...

Holidays spent in Wales as a child.

Dad mentioned that during the war a bomb landed in the garden near your house, he thinks it might have been the next house along. Do you know anything about that?
