They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

You are probably right about the meeting with Councillors but if my father ever saw a 'duck pond' of 'wimmin', as he called it, he'd assume they were 'jus' cantin''. :playful:

To me it looks like it could be an early road sweeping machine or he's a motorised Antonio with his ice cream cart. Then again, it could be summat between the two. :crushed:

I can remember going to see my wife in what is now City hospital old Dudley Road) when she'd been taken in labour with our first the previous night. Expecting it to be all over and me a father, I found her still struggling and insistent that I "bugger off". Seeking refuge in the Windmill I hid...

    Moor St Steam Engine

The extension to the Metro. These are hard times and we need to make savings wherever we can and if they're not used immediately they'll be off to some tatter's yard.

The original Red Lion Kings Heath ?

I'm just surprised how much newer the older building looks compared to the newer. It's not much different to houses being built today!

The original Red Lion Kings Heath ?

Hmmm... 'twould seem to me then that the newer was replaced by a much older building!

    Royal Coronations : Birmingham response

I can remember going round with my big sister collecting donations for the event, then my big brother rigging the PA system. (I recall him jumping down a ladder to see off some bloke throwing insults at his assistant, Hughie, for being a Northern Ireland Catholic.) Our School, Foundry Road...

Must be Firefox combined with some other settings on this Macbook then. Ah well, no big deal I can always switch to Safari. :cupcake:

And again I couldn't see the policeman until I switched browsers from Firefox to Safari. Seems there must be something in the coding of the forum that isn't entirely compatible with FF. :chargrined:

I've too have a cap made from Irish tweeds but only wear it when it's very cold or raining. I don't look like an OAP in it, just daft! :culpability:

Then there was Long John Baldry. I went to see him at the Plaza so I guess he could've been round town as well. :mask:

    Handsworth New Road School

Hi Jenny, There's a clue to the school's location in the name Handsworth New Road, which runs from from the junction of Lodge Road and Winson Green Road, towards Handsworth until it changes to Boulton Road, just under the railway bridge. Therefore, if you're coming from Handsworth it will be the...

    When Everyone Wore A Hat...

Ah, oM, you worked in an office whereas my father worked as a ganger/plate layer on the railways. My brother who worked as a field engineer for ICL had to wear a suit with his collar and tie. He often came home with his tie in ribbons where it had been caught in some machinery, usually one of...

    When Everyone Wore A Hat...

My father always wore a trilby with a collar and tie to work on the railways right up till he retired in the 70s.

    Birmingham Central Library 1974 - 2015

I couldn't agree more. Whatever is said about the old library it is still serviceable therefore, if money is tight why has tens of millions been spent on the new monstrosity? Maybe a purely but much smaller and much, much less costly electronic library would've been the answer.

I can see now why I missed the copper and Mary; on my screen the picture is cut off just in front of the Volvo. :crushed:
