They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

"Dickie seat"! How could anyone be carried in one of those without a seat belt or head restraint? Come to think about it, how could anyone drive one of those old Roadsters with no servo steering or braking, airbags, head restraints, reversing lights, parking sensors or cameras? And however did...

    The Oratory, Hagley Road

My daughters went to the Oratory primary school when we lived in the area. The youngest made her first communion and confirmation there. She went on to St Philip's six form college and from there to Lady Margret Hall College, Oxford. I only ever went to the Oratory Social Club. :-)

Do you remember your childhood dreams?.

Yup, I have them - never want to wake up. I can't recall any childhood dreams other than ones where you're falling downstairs or summat and wake up before you hit the bottom. However, during my recent hospitalisation when I can't recall any of the reality I can recall some terrible illusions I...

    childrens games

They still play football in my street because it's a cul-de-sac and the car owners don't half give out about them.

    When Everyone Wore A Hat...

Noddy Holder wore one of those mirrored hats till quite recently. I can't see why they didn't catch on, meself.

    Items that have faded away

Whoever made pads to protect "togs" during sliding would've been wasting time with kids like me and my peers, who had no arses in our trousers to start with. :pride:

    Hawleys bakery

As yeast was used for both products I s'pose it makes sense to produce them both in the same premises.

    Items that have faded away

A slide, very similar to that one, has only recently been taken out of the playground at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, much to the disappointment of my grandkids.

    Cherry Street

I'll stick my neck out and take a stab in the dark (to use but two clches) that the mystery street mentioned in #30, is Fore Street.

    Hawleys bakery

Can't say I remember that bakery but just seeing the open back doors of those vans brings back the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread...YUM! EDIT: (a few minutes later.) The currant bakery on Birmingham Road West Brom is now Allied Bakeries. I think it was Scribband's before that.

    Items that have faded away

Yup, I remember them. They'd disappear into the hole and you'd never find them again! :black_eyed: Er.. and I think there's summat wrong with the attachments above. :chargrined:

The White Horse Cellars Constitution Hill

I remember those days with Jim & Mary Twigg. They had a full sized hunting poodle named Brandy. My best mate had a thing about Mary so we spent lot of my time in there when we were [supposed to be] working for Canning's Engineering. I remember him bringing a bull fight poster back from our...

    Gangs of Birmingham

I don't think police officers are covered by H&S even now. :crushed:

    Items that have faded away

My parents went out for a drink, leaving me struggling for a decent reception on my cat's whisker. I eventually cured it by tapping into the old radio aerial. On her return from the pub I handed over the headphones for Mom to witness what a clever boy I was. As soon as she ducked into them she...

    Birmingham weddings of the past

My/our wedding reception was in our house. The second best one I've been to was in the garden of the Black Eagle in Hockley. On the other hand my daughter was a bride's maid at a wedding where the bride's dress cost over £5000! Of course, Asian weddings, of which I've been to a couple of, are in...
