    Hockley Abbey

Hi Lyn, yours is probably right. I take dated photos with a pinch of salt to be honest, there's been too many that has been wrong. Regarding mikejees map, I used to live in Park Rd right opposite Whitmore St. Terry

    Stonebridge Hotel

Phil, I live not too far from there and have done since 1958, but I can't ever remember the Malt Shovel doing food like they do now, the odd sandwich and cobs perhaps. It's a carvery now and we go there on a regular basis. It's quite popular, especially on a Sunday. Was the flyover built as...

    Stonebridge Hotel

I have'nt a clue why it was demolished, perhaps it was no longer making any money, it had probably seen better days. One thing is certain, the land was never built on, even to this day. They built a flyover the Stonebridge island but that was a good while after the pub was demolished. Terry

    Stonebridge Hotel

A few more pics of the Stonebridge. As kids we used to cycle to the pub and do a spot of fishing in the Blythe behind it. I believe it was demolished in the early 60's.

    Burials

Thanks for the reply Brian, I did'nt realise that cemeteries were competing with each other, I always thought that they were council run. You learn something every day.

    Burials

In 1897/98 my grandparents had 3 children up to the age of 3 interred at Witton cemetery. Now I know for a fact that they had no money,so my question is, would they have had help in costs from anywhere? And also, how would they have travelled to there, they lived in Hockley and I am assuming...

    The Brookhill Alum Rock

I had a friend who was killed outside the Brookhill many years ago. He was either getting into a taxi or getting out when he was hit by a car. I have a feeling though, he had just left the pub and was getting into the taxi. His name was John Byrne. We used to drink mainly at the Cross Guns and...

    Chelmsley Wood on the box.

Half of it was filmed outside CW anyway. Latelow Rd is up by the Meadway and there were other places I would'nt call CW.

Ever wonder what was on the telly the day you was born? Now you can find out because they have put all the Radio Times online. It looked a load of rubbish when I was born, good job we did'nt have a telly then. https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/ Terry
