    Birchfield Road Perry Barr

This is a lovely thread, I lived in Stoneleigh Road, which is just down a little way from Birchfield Road, from March 1957 when we were married until we left Birmingham in late 1959. I did all my shopping there, at the Co - Op, Wimbushes, Dodds, Englands for my shoes. So many memories on here...

Hi Grahame, I will ask my sister Jenn if she remembers a car or motorbike, she was there in the infants at more or less the same time as you were. I do wonder if perhaps Mr Broadhurst had a motorbike?

Kardomah New Street and Colmore Row

The building in New Street was on the corner of Cannon Street, now Ted Baker's. The photo is the original sign over the doorway. You can still read it but it is very faint now.

I don't remember any of the staff having a car, Grahame, even the senior school teachers. I wonder did Mr Chapman travel by train, Perry Barr to Walsall? Not sure if the line went that way, and then possibly the bus out to Pelsall.

They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

Yes Paul, a shooting brake. A lovely warm summer day and everyone dressed up to go shopping, not a pair of scruffy jeans or a hole in sight.............. I bet my late mother in law is there somewhere.

I was looking for something else when I found this thread. The link from Chris's post is about my lovely headmaster Mr Chapman and it is worth reading if you have a few minutes. Little did we know that when we left school our head was travelling to Pelsall and often meeting his Home Guard Unit...

That is so very 30's Viv, by the time we were all going there in the 50's it had been bombed, the photo on 73 shows 'our' KD. I think the entrance to the basement was through the door on the extreme right. Thanks for bringing this thread forward, I have enjoyed reading it and seeing posts from...

    Queslett Road Great Barr

It is a small world Wendy, I loved being in Hamstead because a lot of the family were there. Now there isn't one of us lving there, or in fact not many of us living anywhere!! The place was full of gully's, we used to cut off Old Walsall Road and nip across a field into another Uncle's house in...
