    Birchfield Road Perry Barr

The houses that were knocked down in Aston Lane had some very nice Victorian bricks along the edges of the roof, We were visiting Mom and drove up Aston Lane as they were in the middle of the demolitions and had left bricks lying around. I manage to 'Rescue' a few, they are all in the garden...

    Clifton Cinema, Great Barr

I'm sad to hear of the fire, I often used to stay at my aunts in Hamstead for the week-end and we always went to the 'pictures' on Saturday night. If we were going to the Cifton we walked along the canal. On the way home we bought chips from Parish's chip shop in Dyas Avnue.

    Birmingham Theatre Royal

Stitcher what wonderful photo's. My mom took me to the Theatre Royal a few times and I have always had fond memories of it. I went to a Panto starring Max Miller in the '40's, it was arranged for children of men in the Base Stores at Dunlop. I think the last show I saw was Sherezade, time mists...

There was also another on the corner of New Street...

    Temple Row

I think you are right Viv. The Kardomah stood near and it was a funny old building replacing whatever had been there before it was bombed. Wendy posted a photo of her dad in front of the original KD and it was very much in the style of the GT Western. The railings were all taken because they...

    Temple Row

I think that there were also Georgian houses along what according to my 1952 Bartholomews is called St Phillips Place running between Colmore Row and Temple Row W. Are they still there? I have some happy memories of visiting buildings in Colmore Row, opposite the Council House. A school friend...

    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

I love this thread, I think I started it because it was where I had my first date with my husband. I had a terrible crush on one of the Mohawkes but he had a girl friend and I had to back off.:ambivalence:

    Birchfield Road Perry Barr

I used to shop in the Perry Barr Co-Op in the 50's. Next to it was a green grocers and I went in for the usual potato's and veg and decided to buy mushrooms. I asked for half a pound and the reply I got was 'They are 1/6d a quarter you know' !!! The Co Op was just above the turn into Ason Lane...

Yes Graham, Pat Harper was my sister's friend when they were little girls. Once Jenn went to Great Barr Comp I think they went their own ways. Christ Church New Street

Re: Christchurch Hi Wendy, what great photos but don't they make you feel sad especially the second one. Love the horse with the bag, I so remember when a tradesman stopped for any length of time in the street, out came the bag and the horse didn't move an inch.

    Birmingham Town Hall

I think most people love the TH, I started a post a couple of years ago about my singing in the Youth Choir. It was there also that my Grandfather was presented with his silver medal in 1908, for helping in the attempted rescue of fellow miners at Hamstead Colliery. Well done Rupert !!

    Bullocks Mill on Cliveland Street

I recall searching the census for the mills on Snow Hill, I felt there was at least one that was eluding us. Loisand is the Queen of the Mills and if she reads this I am sure she will have something to add.

    addmission to Aston Hall

My sister was so fed up when she walked into the kitchen and the turtle was gone !! I sell old stuff, and glad I am that people have looked after their things so that I can sell them, but wood is such a tactile material, and it does get its patina from those bums and it needs to be handled to...

The next was Dr Holloway and after him in the late 1950's were two Dr's who had met and married at the QE. The lady doc was Dr Mcguiness, but I can't recall her husbands...
