    I'mafraid to say this, but there aren't the craftsmen about to day who can create our old type victorian buildings examples like the B'ham law courts using terra cotta and other fine materials look at the council house,the town hall, no ugly concrete in that lot

    Road resurfacing vehicles

    Oh Memories of a small boy, to see those wonderful machines working away in our streets when they used to resurface the roads,the smell of the tar,you can bet your life,we got some on our footwear, and clothes,used lard to get it off our legs

    still have quite a selection of old records up in the loft dating from the 30s 40s.50.60, mostly all 78s can't play them now,also have some 6p "Eclipse" records from "woolys" plus Joe loss,everly bros,Vipers skiffle,lonny donegon's Cumberland gap, Rock Island line etc

    Graham, I was a patrol leader in the 1st Kingstanding scouts that was my first uniform 1944, but I would think that the photo of a 1949 scout would be a lot earlier

    I got to know Birchfield Rd, quite well in the 40s walked up and down there 100s of times trying to get ciggies for the motley crew of builder's where I was employed as an apprentice. Like Aston, I bought a lot of my tools from Dodd's and also used to take the picks and crowbars to be sharpened...
