    Groups We Have Seen Live

My friend and I also went to that Led Zeppelin concert at the Town Hall in June 1969. We had seen them previously earlier in that year, not very long after they had formed, at Mothers in Erdington.

    Celebrities in passing

I've met a few well known people through retail work but those in passing... Cleo Laine and her husband Johnny Dankworth I saw browsing in the Bargain Bookshop in New Street, near the Odeon. I think they were on at Ronnie Scott's that night. Another Roy Wood one - he and his then girlfriend...

    Birmingham Screwdriver Company Digbeth

A hammer. Usually used on delicate devices when a real screwdriver would be better. Refers to the habit of a Birmingham inhabitant (i.e. simpleton to take a rather simplitic view of maintenance.) If it don't work - hit it. If it still don't work, use a bigger hammer. I learnt about the joke...

Stevie Wonder In Birmingham In 1963

Interesting! The only small dance hall in Perry Barr I can think of is the function room at the Crown and Cushion, many bands played there in the 60s.

I just checked that out - it's a design by artist Foka Wolf based on the old joke! You can buy t-shirts and mugs with the design on :)

Stevie Wonder In Birmingham In 1963

I don't think that would have been a show in 1963 as the Move didn't form until 1966. The poster is for the Old Hill Plaza not the Plaza pictured in Rookery Road, Handsworth. However, he would have probably appeared at both as the clubs were run by the Regan family.

United Reform Church, corner Hamstead and Newton Roads, Great Barr

This is very sad... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crrqx00j551o The church was up for sale for £400,000 in 2023 and this was reported in the Express and Star earlier this year.. The old Newton Road United Reformed Church in Great Barr would be cleaned up and converted into a new Kung Fu...

    Pop up Adverts 2025

A week ago I started getting adverts popping up and dropping from the top and bottom again (not in the middle of the page fortunately!) whereas from the beginning of June when Warren fixed things the ads were small and just static. I can push them up and down but it is rather irritating. Anyone...
