    Park Lane...Aston

Thank you MWS for helping clear this up. I now understand it. I am new to this research, & find some of it quite puzzling.

    Park Lane...Aston

Hello Lynn. I know my uncle Harold left home around 1959ish to get married. They moved to another part of Aston, which was not too far away from us. His house was near Aston railway station.

I am puzzled by this too Lady Penelope. 4 records officially closed is a strange one. Maybe someone can throw some light on why this is.

Wow. What a brilliant discovery Brummy-lad. I think you are right about my grandparents house. I was thinking the same. Seeing photographs like these certainly take me back to my childhood.

    Park Lane...Aston

I think you are correct about those houses missing due an air-raid. It has been many years since I was last there & was only 8 years old when my grandparents passed away. I do remember going into that shop for sweets, though we had another just own the road from our house in Potters lane. My...

    Park Lane...Aston

Again, A massive thank you Brummy-lad. This is how I remember it, though there were houses where the Ford Popular is when I lived there. We moved to Bracebridge Street not long after my grandparents passed away, then to Waterworks Street. How aston has changed over the years, (sadly, for the...

Thank you so much Brummy-lad. This has been a great help I used to live around the corner from them in Potters lane before they passed away. A massive thank you for finding this for me.

Thank you Brummy-lad. Their names was Arthur & Ada Wicks. They both passed away in 1962. Only went to their house a couple of times. I can remember going up a long path to their front door.

Thank you Brummy-lad. Have tried using that before, but kept getting an error message. Will just have to wait until I can visit the Library in Birmingham & hope that I can find what I need. Thank you for the info though.

    Park Lane...Aston

I have been trying to do some research on old houses in park lane. My grandparents used to live in one of the houses across the road from the shareholders, but have come to a complete stop. It appears that maps on line are not available for pre 1960. It would have been so nice to actually have a...

    Lewis's Department Store

I used to wag it from school just to go & work at both Ansells brewery & H.P sauce helping to load the lorries. Really loved the aroma coming from both together. These were my happiest school time memories as it was something I enjoyed. Sadly, both do not exist any more apart from in our memories.

    Old street pics..

Thank you Tates for sharing this. This takes me right back to my very early years. We had our first house just up the road from here in the early 60's. Such an incredible store where plenty of bargains could be had.

    Lewis's Department Store

I agree Tinpot. Lewis's was always busy & it was so easy to be taken into Lewis's by the crowd of people, but was always a pleasure to have this happen. Why we can not have our old Lewis's back a it was has often crossed my mind. Maybe one day, it will change back, but sadly, I will not be...

    Lewis's Department Store

I worked in the cafeteria. Absolutely loved my time there, & was sad to see the old place disappear, but Lewis's was my favorite store. I used to go to Henry's too, but would spend most of my time in Lewis's.

    Lewis's Department Store

I certainly remember visiting most of the counters on a Saturday with my mum. It was certainly the best store to visit. How I miss those wonderful days of going into my favorite store. I know times have to change, but it would have been so lovely to have kept Lewis's as it was, just as a...

    Lewis's Department Store

From what I remember as a child, Lewis's food hall was so much better than Rackams's. Much better aroma too. I would always feel hungry every time I went into Lewis's, even after having something to eat before going in. That was how lovely the aroma was.

    Lewis's Department Store

Lewis's was my favorite store in Birmingham. Spent many happy hours going up & down the old wooden escalators. How times have changed, (sadly, for the worst). At least we have the wonderful memories & can feel young again when we think about how times were when we were young. The window displays...
