Hi Walkscrow. I was there at the same time you, & left in 1969.I remember Mr Pinner (plug) very well. I got on well with him in geography class. The dorm you were in was Clee house, & yes, the color was yellow. Even though I first arrived in 1965, I never mey the caretaker. I really liked our...

Yes. I remember now Peter. I always thought you were staff. Yes, I remember Mr tebbitt teaching the gardening as well as the woodwork class. He taught me about bee keeping & had me looking after them on the allotment by the block. I loved those Sleds. My favourite was a red on. It seemed faster...

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

You were there whe I was, though I do not remember you. It has been a lot of years since I was there & have forgotten what many of the pupils looked like. There are a few who I do remember how they looked though. I do remember a pupil check on the dorms, & just before bedtime, we had half an...

Love seeing all these old photo's. Thank you for sharing them with us. I was actually drawn to the photo of the Barton's Arms. Iused to live in the street to the right of the Bartons Arms. (Next door to the chippy). This was in the 1960's. Really loved that old house. Neighbors were always warm...

    Lewis's Department Store

Totally agree John L. Especially late into the evening. I now much prefer to use the train. So much safer.

    Villa Street Lozells

I remember this cafe very ell Cookie55. Yes, it was a very old looking place. Thankfilly, even though I lived next door, I never entered the cafe. Just did not look very clean.

    Villa Street Lozells

The cafe you mention Cookie55, was this the one at the bottom of Villa Street, by nursery road. If so, I used to live next door to it in the early 70's. They used to throw their empty beans & tomato can over the wall into our garden every day.

    Lewis's Department Store

Yes, you are correct Vivienne14 & David Grain. I lived in Birmingham most of my 67 years, & never saw a pub as part of the Lewis's store until it's closure & now has a pub/restaurant with HM Courts being in one section. I for one would have prefered Lewis's to still be there as it was a...

Hi Donky1955. If my memory serves me well, I think it was the depot at the top of Thimblemill Lane Nechells.

    Upper Thomas Street School Aston

Hi Donky 1955. My dad used to drive for B.R.S too. This was around 1960ish. They were probably drivers together. We were living in Potters Lane at the time.

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

That must have been awful for you Tina. Yes, we had bullying at Hunters Hill when I was there from 1965 to 1969, but nothing on this scale. If Miss Buckley had not retired from Hunters Hill in 1969, she would have been headmistress of both schools & would certainly have taken action against that...

    Lewis's Department Store

They have improved security too, so that probably why customers have changed, also a lot more space between rails & shelves.

    Lewis's Department Store

I can see where you are coming from as have visited the original store & saw the mess but the staff did nothing. At the new store, if anything goes on the floor, a member of staff picks it up & takes it away. The new Primark is so much cleaner.

    Lewis's Department Store

There is one primark store I can quite honestly say, have brilliant staff, & that us the New Primark in Birmingham. Much cleaner than the old store, & staff are always helpful

    Lewis's Department Store

Rackhams was nice, but very expensive & staff were not very friendly, hereas Lewis's was excellent, had a brilliant atmosphere, everything was affordable & the staff were very friendly & helpful. I guess that is why I kept going back to Lewis's & not Rackhams. Another store I loved going to was...
