Hello Sandhu. That is fantastic news. I will certainly be keeping everything crossed. When the weather improves, I will certainly be paying a lovely visit to the area. I have not been down that way for a lot of years & I think it is about time I did.
Hello Lady P. I agree, This is a very good picture. I have not seen that Marsh & Baxters ad for a very long time. Really loved their sausages, & this ad certainly always made me smile.
I lived in waterworks street just down from the corner shop owned by Mrs Harrison. She was such a lovely lady. My dad used to drink in the pump tavern occasionally. It was either there or the church tavern at the end of our road. Just depended on how he felt.
Managed to get a copy of one photo of me & my 2 brothers as we went to the Enots christmas party. Who the 2 lads on the left of us, I can not remember.I am on the far right.
You are most welcome, & you are not an old dear impis. You are just like me & I guess Elmdon boy, we are still young at heart If we think young, then we will always be young.
It does not matter how old we get, a little flirting helps us to stay young.
Hi michael. Unfortunately, I can not remember many people from my school days at UTS, as I found it hard to make friends due to the bullying I got when I first went there. My Parker (nobby) would not do anything to stop this happening, so I wagged it & worked at ansells brewery & HP sauce...
As long as you enjoyed yourself & was kept safe. Some girls, I can remember from those days, were not being good girls. At least you was taught well by your parents. I have managed to work out that you are roughly 3 years older than me. They were really great days then. Unfortunately, I just can...
That wasn't long after I left school. It surely set you up on the correct path, to go to college & do teacher training. Well done. I would have said you was about 18 in that photo. I on the other hand could not get away with it as I was small for my age. I know the feeling about working...
Hello Wendylee. Yes, I too remember the smell of the fresh food department. It always made me feel hungry, even after having something to eat. How I miss those days visiting Lewis's.
Such a lovely park, though not much in there at the time, but at least we knew how to have lots of fun anyway. I remember (after lots of brain shaking & mixing the name up with another park), I knew it as Blews street park.
I was once told that a girl could be heard screaming as she fell between the stairs from the 5th floor to the bottom, right on the corner of lewis's. I was still at school when this was told to me & refused to use those stairs.
I used to go there when I worked at the Alexandra theatre. We used to have our end of panto parties there. Some of the games we played at those parties were hilarious. First went when "puss in boots" was the panto, with millicent martin as the star. Really loved working at the alex. Also went to...
Hello Lynn. I suspect our paths must have crossed at some point during our time living there & playing in the park. It is a great pity we never had the forethought that we would have the internet, nor wonderful websites like this. I was a bit of a loner when I was young (unfortunately). Plus...
I am glad the old norton building is not going to go as many of the buildings have. Well done Sandhu. Hope you have many happy years there. I love the idea of a new plaque to celebrate the history of Norton. A massive thank you for saving this lovely building. Our history lives on...
