    Bracebridge Street

Seeing the photo of the White Heart pub has taken me right back to when I got run over at those traffic lights by a coal lorry. I had just got home from school & my mum asked me to go to the post office, & I stood waiting at the lights & a lady said it was safe for me to cross the road, when the...

    Bracebridge Street

I can remember us moving into our house in Bracebridge street, as we has galvanized sheets at all the windows, & my mother crying, as the house was a mess. Kids from the area were throwing stones at the sheets of metal until the council came & fitted new windows in. Those houses were pretty...

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

Unfortunately, I only went to Blews Street park a few times, but I think, was a little too young to remember anyone from there, as I was always very quiet & did not mix at that time.My brothers were always allowed to go to the park when they wanted, but I was prevented, even though I was older...

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

Hello Lorraine. I was at Hunters Hill from 1965, & vaguely remember Miss Urquart, but remember the swimming pool in Cropwood. Yes, it was kidney shaped, & was at the bottom of some steps. Some of us boys used to use it before we was allowed to go into Bromsgrove to the swimming baths there...

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

Hello Marketman. It is a really small world. Unfortunately, I just can not remember anyone's names from my time in Bracebridge street, though I do remember the chippy on the opposite road to me, & an old gent who used to stand at the bottom of his entry, using his walking stick as a gun,playing...

Birmingham Open Air Schools - Cropwood, Hunter's Hill, Marsh Hill and Skilts (excl. Haseley Hall and Uffculme)

Hello Marketman. I thought you had emigrated. Lol. I vaguely remember Wayne, though I can't remember Brian. If I remember correctly, Wayne's bed, as you say, was just inside the door to the right, then there was someone else, who I can not remember, then my bed, then Stephen Rose's bed. I have...

    Then & Now

Hello Eric. Yes, Perry Barr station is still there. I think it may have to be made much larger in time for the Commonwealth games, as there appears to be lots of major changes being made to the area.

I most probably knew them. I used to live at number 20, before it was demolished to make way for the expressway.

    Woolworths Memories

I do remember lots of shops around at the time having the same facility. You are correct, H & S would not allow that today, even though it was just a simple case of common sense in those days. Says a lot about how times have changed

    Woolworths Memories

From my days working at the bull ring store, I believe you are quite correct. There was always some lady offering some assistance.

    Then & Now

I was brought to appreciate everything in life, which one reason why I love this forum. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people in the world who do not understand appreciation, but we certainly do on this forum :)

    Then & Now

Hello Eric. I did not realise I had hit the appreciate button that my times. I am having a few problems with my computer at the moment where if I click appreciate, it is not showing up, though I have had lots of posts to catch up on from october time onwards. It does not help as I am having...

    Then & Now

I remember Prince charles making a comment about the old bullring shopping center, say it was like a concrete jungle. The whole of the new birmingham center is much more like a concrete jungle. I much prefer the old birmingham as it was, with all it character & history (unlike the buildings of...
