Passages, Alleyways Gulletts and Snickets of Old Brum

Thanks for that mikejee, it looks like it's where I was hoping it would be, my mother had cousins who lived there, in fact we were talking about it a couple of days ago. Now, I can tell my mom the name of the place.

Passages, Alleyways Gulletts and Snickets of Old Brum

Can someone show me on a map where Chapel Terrace was/is. I come from Saltley and have a very vague idea where it would have been, because I can see the gasworks.

    Housing : Living conditions

My mom used to use that green soap that was mentioned earlier. She put the little pieces of soap left over from washing (some people might through it away) in a special implement, it was a metal cage about 3 x 2 inches, on a stick. She used to whish it around in the warm water to get suds.

    Items that have faded away

I don't, but, when we visit England and my mom does the laundry for us, the clothes come back perfectly folded, with the socks and underwear on top of the pile. The socks paired, inside one another, and neatly darned.

    Items that have faded away

The constellation was one of the best, if not the best, I've owned. We used to use it at a place I worked, and, my boss gave it to me when he bought a new one, then, I gave it to my mom, when I moved in with my boyfriend. It was so easy to move around...

Where You Played Then - What's It Like Now.

Slightly off subject. We had a friend (who hadn't been back to Brum for about 10 years) come and visit us in Tamworth. He was driving from Coleshill, used to be quite a straight route. He was in bits after his trip, almost in tears, the road had changed so much, loads of new traffic islands.

    Aston Cross

Ansells's Beer and HP Sauce make hell of a stink at Aston Croooss. My mum used to say that, everytime we stood waiting for the no. 8.

    Swimming Lessons

I never did learn to swim good, I kept sinking. I went to Nansen Road School, and we were took to Woodstock Street on a corporation bus. The best bit for me then was being able to get off the bus at the bottom of Alum Rock to go home. Then when I went to Hodge Hill Grammar School for Girls, we...
