    Newspaper -The rag

I've been reading 'Personal Recollections of Birmingham and Birmingham Men' on Project Gutenberg, and just read a passage that reminded me of something, the last but one sentence raised a question in my mind. "It was edited by Mr. Thomas Ragg". Now, when I was younger, family members used to ask...

Those houses look empty, could that be because they had just been 'improved' and no one moved in yet?

The clock you can see on the left hand side used to be where "The Education" was. Does anyone that place. I was hardly tall enough then to reach the counters.

    Temples of Relief

I'm not sure if it's still there, but, there used to be one in Crawford St, Saltley by the canal. . Being female I often wondered why the men had to have so many places to relieve themselves. Why weren't there any ladies equivalent?

    Ash Road, Saltley

I'm curious as to why my mother's family moved from Crawford St. to Ash Road. She says it seemed like a posh place compared to Crawford St. So. I'm wondering did something happen around 1940 to make this possible? and who lived at 44 Ash Road before them?

    Smethwick

Oh, God, that reminds me of one the the things I had to do in my first job. On discovering that I had ' nice handwriting', I was given the task of writing all the invitations for the opening of the wholesale fashion house that I worked at in Albert Street.

    Loxton Street School

Don't take this wrong, but, I am quite overwhelmed that there are people on this site that went to school in the 30's. Even more, I have great respect that you and anyone else from the 30's use a computer. Sorry, if this sounds condescending, I don't mean it that way. My mother's in her late...

    Cadbury Changes

It happens a lot when big companies buy smaller ones. It happened to a local bank I was working at, we had 4 branches. We knew all our customers by name, and it had been in existence since the 1700's. The company that bought us, wined and dined us, told us nothing would change, within a year...
