    Birmingham buses

Not knowing at lot about the specifics about the mechanicals of a bus but I would have thought the trans and axle gearing would be way different to other commercial vehicles just from the start stop operation of the daily grind (forgive the pun).

What kind of money did these old bus go for as scrap ? I can see where the mechanical could be sold on to trucking companies but as for the coach work was there a after life ? It's clear the operating body gave vary little value to these older buses with a 500 pound and less figure for thumbs up...

Small amount given the nature of the beast fairly easy threshold to cross I wonder if some of the repair estimates would have been a little inflated, loose a old bus get a new or newer replacement.

    Guided buses Tracline 65

Once again Phil great picture, with all this folks there you would have thought one may have said this is a bad idea. I see the driver getting some last minute instructions "keep it between the rails mate" or is he saying this will never work This whole idea with a guided rail system reminds me...

    Elmdon Airport Birmingham International Airport

That entrance to me does not look like the gateway to far flung places with exotic food and drink I did look at a picture that shows the whole front and I still think the entrance is awful. Now when I look at the whole front of the building the only thing missing is Hitler leaning against the...

Ha Ha not at all, the building looks like support columns for a flyover with walls added all very modern but concrete walls no details may as well be a visiting room for a low level security prison, just missing the guards at the rails. i never really liked going to the airport it never had a...

    Then & Now

Don't hold your breath, The building of the Bullring was a big step and transformed Birmingham into a modern city, clearing all those slums was a needed thing getting rid of out houses, indoor plumbing a bathtub with its own room. All good moves but all at a cost the loss of community The...

    Birmingham buses

What a great slice of history lovely little film. The record keeping for each bus, the file on each was almost like a medical history I am sure from the womb to the tomb. Those London buses must have been real clean no one in the film had dirt on their hands, but the guys in the cow gowns the...

    Birmingham buses

Lots to ponder on, firstly how did England manage to build and deliver buses during WW2. Thinking back you never really saw to many buses broken down it fact I would go as far to say it was rare. A true testament to the Birmingham bus system keeping a fleet alive is no easy undertaking with a...
