They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

No, I think that the crowd are just moving along the pavement alongside the bus. The 29 was a really odd route, ending at Pheasey Estate, US army barracks. Back in those days, the American Army were still there, and used this service to get into Town. This picture of the US Army Sentry at...

They Were Caught In Our Old Street Pics...

I used to go with my Dad to the Veg Market very early in the morning. I borrowed a barrow off Prykes to put a load of cabbage onto our lorry, slipped and tore my acchilles tendon....That Was Painful! But very happy memories of the old Market.

Hi Badger. Gerry here. I have been in the business for a very long time, and worked for all the main TV Broadcasters, appearing in many series. May I point you to a web site/facebook page called: KEEP VARIETY ALIVE. it has strict rules about joining, but for the genuine lover of all things...

    Aston hippodrome

Susan, Hi! Can I point you in the direction of "Keep Variety Alive" a facebook page. In it there are a lot of old timers (like myself) who either performed at The Aston Hipp, or have memories of it, that you might enjoy. Perhaps, post something on there and you never know who could see it...

    Midland Red Around Birmingham.

Hi. I was at Sutton Garage, 75 & 76, then sadly went onto coaches....big mistake...but at least I saw Europe. Sadly I don't recall Peter mate. My boss was Comelio, a chap called Smart in the upstairs offices.

Even though I am 80 now, and have run various businesses over the years, I still count my time with the Midland RED as one of the best jobs I ever did. Every day was different, and the people back then were really lovely, I mean you could have a laugh with them. I guess it was like family...yes...

    Lewis's Department Store

Really happy times. I remember Mom & me during the war, we would travel from Great Barr on the 119, Midland RED into town, and to me, Lewis's was a magical place. A zoo, toys, a roof garden, Father Christmas, a barbers shop, Everything you could ever want! I loved it.

    Lewis's Department Store

All this talk about Bradford's bread of West Brom, makes me hungry. I used to spend hours in Wimbush's, Perrywood Road, in Great Barr.....I loved their cakes, but I was going out with a lovely young lady that worked there too! By the way, for those that don't know, Bradfords Bakery/Sunblest was...

I know you are talking about Crete, but remember Malta, and the old converted British trucks? I know it has changed so much these days. Here is a Leyland from the fifties.

    Lewis's Department Store

My wife and I remember that well. Great memories of old style Brum. Going back to the early 1960's, I had a job at BARROWS Stores, in Corporation Street; now that WAS snooty! We used to have a green and gold van, that would travel out to Streetly with summer vegetables and salads for the wealthy...

    Midland Red Around Birmingham.

Back in 1958, I was working at Sutton Garage, and we would often be sent into Birmingham, during the Bank Holidays, to stand at Station Street, and be allocated a route. We would run fully loaded to such destinations as: Stourport, Stratford, Warwick, and the Lickey Hills. We would then stand...

    Farrs Butcher Shop

Hi, I know it was a long time ago since you posted this, but I have messaged you. Teddy Farr was my Dad's best friend, and his boss in the Butchery shops. I knew Sandra and Martin Farr, and went to their home many times in Streetly. Thanks. Gerry.

    Crossroads programme

My neighbour is Jane Rossington, who played Jill in the original series; and as mentioned earlier Jack Woolgar was a director in Vulcan Film Productions, my company back in 1975/6. They really were lovely people to know.
