It's getting on for 25 years since I lived in Brum and it has certainly changed since then, some of the scenes took some working out but I think I managed to keep up!

    Field Gate Farmhouse, Acocks Green

Quote. "There was a coal wharf behind Field Gate Farmhouse". Acocks Green HS. This coal yard was operated by BCS/ Co-op until 1979. Found a pictures in "Acocks Green" by Michael Byrne p76/77 but buildings look late C19.

    Field Gate Farmhouse, Acocks Green

Lived nearby in late 1960-1970. Had an allotment between Yardley Cemetery and the canal. I did not know of Field Gate Farm but do remember the transport yard on the site. I've seen a photograph of a No11 bus rounding the bend after crossing the canal, maybe on BHF not sure, perhaps farm could be...

    Swanswell Rd/Gospel lane

This is a "new" thread to me, Swanswell Rd was a landmark in our family an uncle and his wife moved there in 1950's, cerainly I used to visit by bike and I passed driving test in 1960. They were the first to "buy" a house, certainly less than £2000! I think it was No.66. other relatives lived...

    The 1980’s House

I first encountered a duvet in a hotel in Bathgate in Scotland, it was too short and too narrow. I wasn't impressed! Notice that duvets without covers are being advertised, for hygiene would need a sheet beneath so are we going full circle ie back to sheets and an eiderdown?

    The 1980’s House

1980 we had a GREY bathroom suite, not official but referred to as Battle Ship Grey. Moved house 2000 to a pink bathroom, this was replaced with a walk in shower with a slate grey shower tray so perhaps we liked the grey bathroom more than I normally admit. Around 2000 went to Currys to buy a...

    Stirchley manufacturing history

I haven't any pictures of these factories but this is near by. The junction of Pershore Rd and Fordhouse Lane, perhaps about 1940's? If you look on line at The Grace guide of British Industry you may find things of interest. My knowledge comes only from the fact that in 1960's I worked at Wilmot...

    IN OUR GARDEN 2024

Hi, bought an orange tree from local super market and a bag of "orange tree compost" from local garden centre. Has done well for a few weeks but now looking "poorly" and dropping leaves. What do you think, too wet?, too hot?, too cold? Forgot to say in conservatory.

    Birmingham Trams

There was a single deck car operating through Camp Hill in the last days of trams in mid 1950's. Always took it to being used to transport BCT staff, it was long after public routes had ceased.

    Bundy clocks around Birmingham

A bit of an aside. I thought A4040 and No. 11 bus route coincided but I notice on maps now that A4040 does not now follow what I remember as the old No11 back in 1960's!. I noticed in this photograph there is not now a bus stop where the bundy clock stood.
