Statue by the Hall of Memory

Thanks for that Ell. I learned a lot from that video (not least to look up more at the buildings mentioned). Love the Boulton, Murdoch Watt, don't like the re-gilding!

    Canals of Birmingham

Re: Canals of Brum A good thread for anyone who has canal workers in their family tree. I've been reading the Birmingham Post listings and it's fascinating! What a hard life (and hard drinking) time they had. It goes on a bit, but bookmark it and dip in and out. www.spellweaver-online.co.uk

Forum meet Rose Villa Tavern Easter 2014

Lovely to see everyone again, and (double bonus) I think I may have moved around enough to avoid any of the photographers. OK so I didn't win one of Eric's paintings (I want my bribe back!!) but did get a lovely Hockley/Handsworth book, so thanks to whoever donated that. I also bought one of the...

    Camden Street, Brookfields Birmingham

I remember Peter Green (Daniel Boone). A mate of mine used to go out with him so we spent quite a lot of time together .. this was before his "big hit" though!

    British Restaurants

Re: "British Resturants" I went to that one a few times - and always ate everything on my plate! Mind, I was a greedy beggar even then.

So sad to lose a valued member of your family, Eric.

    The Roundhouse

Last time I was down that way (couple of years ago) there was a children's nursery being run from the Roundhouse! Very strange - but I guess the need is/was there, lots of flats and houses around that area.

    Where is This #208?

    Molliett Street maybe?

    Where is This #207?

I lived not far from there in the 70s and can confirm that the Old Crown was demolished and a new one built on the (more-or-less) same site. Like the Greyhound in Norton, Stourbridge I don't think it was an improvement .. but that's progress for you I guess.

Is it Moreton Street Hockley? (Maggs will know if it is .. and it probably isn't)!

The Stonehouse, Selly Oak/Bartley Green/Weoley Castle border.

My relatives were also regulars at the Stonehouse - and the California. Many a happy hour spent in the grounds of the Stonehouse with a glass of pop and a packet of crisps (if I was lucky). I think there was a load of Nissan huts next door, or nearby, in the fifties?

Cheeky bovine Lyn! I also watched a friend pinch some sweeties from Woolworths, but I couldn't summon up the courage to join in.

What did you do, own up!!

I was drinking Gin and Orange at the age of fifteen - I was tall for my age! Hated the taste but it was SO the thing to do then lol.
