That must have been part of Joan's family then Pauly. We lost touch some time ago I'm afraid.

Joan Schuck was at Canterbury Road school with me - the Secondary school, I wasn't in the Junior/Infants.

    Hockley hill post office

My dad worked out of the "big" Post Office on Hockley Hill (junction of Key Hill) during the 40s and 50s as a postman. It was mainly a sorting office then as far as I know, so maybe the smaller Post Office was at the bottom of Hockley Hill?

Don't remember him Jean, but I DO remember letting in (and being let in) a number of friends through the fire doors. Ooooh naughty me! My friend Joan Schuck used to live in Franchise Street.

Thanks Pollypops, I was right then, no point in putting one on my birthday list! Tonights programme takes in Dudley and Bridgnorth for the Severn Valley Railway.

Loved the "Little Gornal" story .. nothing much changes does it? How sad about the little girls being burned though.

    Railway Journeys

I thought it was quite a good coverage of the Pen Museum - longer than his usual "whistle stop" visits. Agree that Moor Street station looked good (I use it often) and was amazed by that pen maker in the Business Centre (and didn't the gates look nice?) I didn't know they still made them either...

    Railway Journeys

Michael Portillo's Great British Railway Journeys @ 6.30pm BBC2 tomorrow (Tuesday) travels to Birmingham and talks about it being the pen making capital of the world, as well as talking about a notorious 19th century murder. The following night (same time) he's in Dudley I think. Worth a look...

I remember seeing Tubby Hayes at the Mermaid. Sad loss to Jazz when he died.

    Assay Office Move

Maybe moving the Assay Office there means the area will be regenerated, Astonian. The Jewellery Quarter and its fringes are prime sites now - my parents/grandparents (from Pope Street, Camden Drive and Icknield Street) would be amazed!

    Assay Office Move

I think the location is a bit further up Lyn? The shops were on the corner of Warstone Lane and Icknield Street weren't they? Pope Street/Icknield Street's more where Bulpitts was methinks. Don't quote me though - my sense of direction's nearly as good as yours lol !! Still a good location though.

    Icknield Street

I passed that building on my last walk around the Jewellery Quarter. No idea what it was originally, but I wish you all the very best for the restoration.

Christmas 2012 at the Jewellers Arms

Glad you all had a good time, another successful meet then? Hope to make the next one, but on the 15th I was sat outside a bar in Tenerife in temperatures approaching 76f. Still, I toasted you all with a large glass of something alcofrolic.....well, someone has to keep the Spanish economy going!
