There was an earlier Nechells Manor House: https://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/teacher/history/jm_jones/jmj_maps_1/page13.htm A search on Google books comes up with this, but I have no way off accessing the publication:

John Norton died Queen's Hospital, Birmingham, Warwickshire 1886

No burial noted on FMP for John Norton except 1885 at Key Hill, but here is a picture of Queens Hospital dated 1861:

This is the other Odd Fellows newspaper notice that Mike was kind enough to find. Thank you, Mike.

    odd fellows arms spring hill

Thank you Mike, Astonian & Midland Pubs(MP). I think there was a simple misunderstanding. I read your post MP as saying that you like to give authority for your own statements & I do so agree. Its different with personal recollections, Astonian. BHF is all the richer for your providing them...

    odd fellows arms spring hill

Thank you all for applying your minds to the matter of the Odd Fellows. Yes, Phil, I too had difficulty in finding this pub in Kellys but Mike was the successfull detective on this. In the interests of concrete evidence here is the article Lyn found which mentions the Odd Fellows:

    Where was Blews St West?

Thank you so much for casting light on the Sir Charles Napier location, Mike. That map is so definitive & far better than the 1903 I was using. Thank you for your contributions Lyn & for walking round the area, Astonian. You will know Blews St West by its newer name Rosebury / Rosebery, Astonian.

    Where was Blews St West?

Here are all three pictures of a pub in Blews St West / Rosebury. You will notice one is signed Sir Charles Napier, whilst the other two not. Where there is a sign by the doorway on the right there seems to be a picture of a man. My thanks to Lyn for finding one of these pictures. Are these...

    Where was Blews St West?

The pub in this picture is variously described as the Sir Charles Napier Blews St West aka Rosebury St junction Clissold St or Rosebury St junct Camden St - the location of the Vine. Can anyone clarify whether the property shown here in the photo is the Sir Charles Napier or the Vine, please?

    Cregoe Street

Thank you very much, Lyn. Based on another photo description that I have seen that looks a lot like the east side about 1961ish.

Thank you so much, Mike, Lyn & Brumboozer. Its fantastic to see a pic of the Warwick Arms & gratifying to get the lie of the land so I can get the area photos in context. What a result, particularly as it was such a long shot to start with.

Which end of Crego St was at the top of the hill? Was it the Bath Row or Bell Barn ends? The photos of Cregoe St are seldom described by their very exact location so I need more clues.

Thank you so much, Mike. I was thrown when I read that Nelson St West was off Summer Hill so I appreciate your clarification & marking no 6.
