Passages, Alleyways Gulletts and Snickets of Old Brum

Hi Lyn. That is Penn Street, it continued from Gopsal Street. I was ecstatic when I found it this morning. I have seen some fantastic photos of town and all the areas I know well but the Eagle and Ball and Penn Street have been the only ones from my “patch” Of course I have seen photos of...

Hi Dennis, I hope it is okay to reply to this old post. I used to live in Gopsal Street until 1968. The top end. Thank you so much for the photos. Great to see the Eagle and Ball , which has been renovated for the University students. This is the first photo I have seen of Penn Street before...

    Clothes & shoes of yesteryear

This is going to be off thread Mike, I know, so please feel free to delete. I have posher shoes than Ravel which have style rather than be fashionable. We all know that fashion fades. Unfortunately I broke my ankle in two places in October and still recovering. Proper shoes, just simply...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Thanks again for the great photos Steve. I used to love shoes and remember buying a pair from Ravel. They were a bit posher than Stylo or Freeman Hardy & Willis and that explains why I still have them in their box after only wearing once.

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Hi Janice, Know this Road very well, used it for many years. It was the main route we used when visiting my parents from Burntwood to Sheldon. It is the usual route for us when going into Brum too. Obviously not used it of late because of lockdown. Many thanks.

Hi Maurice, I agree with what you say about the Market Hall and Rag Market. For me so many happy memories, one favourite being a plate of whelks or penny winkles. Loved going there Saturday afternoons with my mom. I have mentioned this on another post. The Photo is great but a bit before my...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Thank you so much for this photo. I now remember how New Meeting Street used to look from this angle. All I have to do now is try and remember the name of the “beatnik” cafe I frequented in 1966. Much appreciated. Regards,

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Great photos of the Boys Brigade. Although my husband was born in Kingstanding, when he was older he moved to Perry Beeches. It’s there that he joined the Boys Brigade at the Methodist church, Thornbidge Avenue. Regards,
