    Birmingham Skyline

Viv, I love this photo. I have only just mentioned the Birmingham Post and Mail in another post. I had lots of family working there, including my dad. After getting married I decided to do agency work, as we needed a deposit for a house. I worked for SOS Bureau, based in the Rotunda on the...

Thank you so much Janice. So I am not losing it. ..yet. Couldn’t remember the name of Ethel Street. We were sitting in there one night, who should go past on the 17 or 68 bus but my dad. He was on his way to his night shift at the Birmingham Post (and Mail). He gave us a wave. We moved to...

Hi to you all. I am fairly new to the Forum and I am still finding my way around. I keep stumbling on threads and every time I see a familiar photograph or a piece about somewhere I know I get a lump in my throat. My husband has noticed how excited I get when there is a photograph that I...

    Union Street

Hi Senoraruz, Yes, that is correct. You can see the 56 bus stop on the right there. It used to stop in Coleshill Street, which was just a little up the road from where I used to live in Gopsal Street. There was the 55 bus too but I don’t think that stopped in Union Street. That went to Shard...

    Union Street

Brecknells on the right, was it a hat shop? I am sure I had my wedding day hat from there, or was it my veil. Think they were in Union passage though. Not sure.

    Restaurants In Birmingham 1960s

Loved the China Garden restaurant Viv. Saturday afternoons was always busy. Really good value for money. Had only just started work, so didn’t have an awful lot of cash, especially after shopping with the girls. Sue

    My Nan's sayings

What a great thread. My Nan always said “make haste” when I was leaving to go back home. I only lived eleven doors away. We always called bread and butter a piece. I still use the word chobbling and my husband loves a piece of jam. . More happy memories.

    Hen & Chickens , 58 Howe St

Hi, Yes this is how I remember The King Arms Terry. My dad was a regular, (also The Eagle & Ball). Think Mr and Mrs Rees ran it in early sixties, they had a daughter called Barbara. Then Mr & Mrs Parton. They had two sons. Alan & Phillip. Lovely lads. All the local girls were in love with...
