Gravelly Hill - Slade Road / The Slade

Dave. I think you may be refering to the photo of the staff of Bonners Garage. I too have this photo but I can't find it either. It was taken sometime in the early 60's Chocks

Returning to camp in the 50s

My coach left Jamaica Row at midnight getting me into Gosport 5am then worked all day before going to the Mondaynight hop in the NAAFI. Tuesday was always a blur. God help us all if war had been declared between lunchtime Friday and lunchtime Tuesday.

    Historical Fiction

Try Robert Low's Viking books (Whale Road through to Prow Beast). Strongly recommended by Bernard Cornwell. They are also written in a similar style to Cornwell but a little more difficult to read because of the high content of Norse within the text. Great reading.

    HMS Birmingham - Tompion

Thanks for the info. I refused the original offer as I suspected some kind of con going on. Interesting to note that the picture I was sent was yours. Kind of proves it doesn't it? I guess I would have sent the money and recieved nothing in return. Glad I asked questions now. Interesting to see...

    Erdington

Strange to see this picture described as Erdington. It is in fact Sutton Coldfield and it was back then too. The border ran down the centre of Harman Rd which is not shown on the picture but is about 50 yds short of the picture shown. On the oposite side of the road about 100 yds short of the...

    Situation Comedy

My all time favorite sit com was without doubt, "Dads Army" but I also enjoyed, "Bootsie & Snudge", "Get Some In" with Robert Lyndsey in it, "Eric and Hattie", "Goodnight Sweetheart" and "Nearest and Dearest" My favorite actor from a sit come would be either Eric Sykes or Reg Varney. Chocks

    air training cadets

That's what it's all about Eric. Although the cadets can give you a good footing in life their ultimate role is to introduce you to life in the forces. I served 4 years in the Sea Cadets and went on to serve 18 years in the RN. Chocks

BHF Xmas Bash (on the day)

I'm glad I was able to get there yesterday. It was great to see familiar faces and meet new members. Always such nice people who attend these meets. Lyn and the team put so much effort into organizing these events. A big "THANK YOU" from the bottom of my heart goes out to you all. Well done...
