    Computer help

HTML5 shouldn't be a separate download. The browser should have been able to read HTML5 years ago although different browsers would have slightly different ideas as to what it is exactly.

    Irish in your tree?

I have one of those names that could have come from a lot of places. Although dad came from Ireland, there are variants in French, Scots, and Hebrew that I know about. Nevertheless, the name comes up on this site in lists and very little else. I think the site was once used to sell a book but it...

    Memorial found in a skip

I had this notice today. It's for an Exhibition at Emmanuel Church, Wylde Green on the 10th of November. I'm told the memorial this has been about will be part of the exhibition. That's the one we started this thread for not the others mentioned.

    Memorial found in a skip

I'd wondered what happened to the Tindal Street memorial. The picture looks like it's been in someone's shed for a while.

    Memorial found in a skip

I don't know if or when we'll find out what the plaque really was but there do seem to be a lot of memorials that have either disappeared or wound up in inaccessible places.

    Brunswick Club, 464 Moseley Road

I vaguely remember there was an application to turn the old Brunswick club into a Strip club despite a lot of protests from the locals. It must have been opened as some kind of club because there was a shooting in there. That was probably what finally closed the place. Do you know if there was a...

    Memorial found in a skip

This morning I got an email from Rob Rolfe who started all of this. "As a result of the BBC coverage, I am now pretty certain of the origin of the plaque. I will have to do a lot of checking, and still have no idea how it came to us. I will be in touch." I have written back to ask what he's found.

There should be more than that, if only the Stones on Balsall Heath Road, but that's a fair view of the distribution for most of them.

    Memorial found in a skip

Probably a good idea to concentrate on that area, more than half of the names came from BH and another fifth from moseley. See the pdf with post 100 for detail. I doubt this would be a particular military barracks given the diversity of regiments they wound up in. It's probably not a school...

One other thing that came up today. The plaque measures 80 cm by 55 cm, or 32 inches by 22 inches.

    Memorial found in a skip

Some news that could make things more difficult. The plaque was brought in to the church 5 years ago. It must have come out of the skip sometime before that.

See Post 100 for the spreadsheet. There are details on there not duplicated on your page and it should be possible to cut and paste from there to speed things up.

    Memorial found in a skip

I know but I passed it earlier this year and it seemed to have a change of ownership and no longer the ASC. I looked at the Facebook page this morning and they haven't posted for almost a year. On the other hand there are still events scheduled for the place on...

It's not going to help. The book we'd need to see is The log book for the boys department that ran from 1902-40 and it's closed - 100 year rule.

    Memorial found in a skip

I've written to ask when it came in to the church. I doubt I'll see the answer this week. I think there are a lot of possibilities that it could have come from depending on whether the skip came from the original source (Closed or refurbished building) or second hand (something kept by a member...

    Memorial found in a skip

For those of you that would like to know where the skip was, this comes from a post by Balsall Heath Local History Society on Facebook. "The person who is looking into it now is from Wylde Green. He says it was brought into a church other than his own and the person who left it there was not a...

    Balsall Heath memorial

Edit. The collated document attached below gives details about the men named on the memorial . As BHF discovers any further information it will be recorded on this thread in a single post dedicated to the named soldier for future reference. Thank you to all those contributing to this research...

    Memorial found in a skip

Sorry I couldn't put this up yesterday but it's the collated material that I was provided on Tuesday. It took a little work to make it work on a pdf this morning.

Currently the only attachment I'm seeing on postings on the pc version is as an image. That's why I haven't tried that. It does seem to vary depending on platform. I'm working on tablet this morning and the options seem different.
