Cyclo Gear, Aston-who didn't work there?!

About 30 mins ago I posted a photo that was not on this thread. Since I have discovered that Lynn posted it on April 18th (#16) on a similar thread entitled "Norma Quibell...Cyclo Gear Potters Hill Aston" I have deleted it. Should the two threads be combined?

J & CH Evans & Co. Ltd. (Maltsters) Aston & Birchfield

In the 60s I lived at 80 Victoria Road which was right opposite the metal shearing works. It was yet to be built in 1950 so doesn't show on Mike's map. This photo shows a delivery truck in the entrance to the Malt works in Whitehead Road..

    Tubes Limited

Unfortunately, no good memories for me. One of my neighbours, Eugene Ford got me a job there in 1973. I was put on straightening castings on a giant press. I hated it and left after 2 weeks.

    Bristol Street 1950's, 60's

I always rely on my "Geographia" map when looking for old roads & streets and as you can see, it shows a police station. As there is no date anywhere on my map, I was wondering whether anyone could roughly date it based on this photo.

    Bristol Street 1950's, 60's

On my old Geographia map of Birmingham, that corner shows a police station but, that's the only info I have.

Seeing #207 reminds me of last year when we did the Peaky Blinders events. I was the Detective on the right and we used that bus as a (blue) Maria van to round up the baddies. As I am also involved in the annual 40s event they hold I really have missed going and hope that they can resume these...

    Victoria Road Aston

Yes you are right MWS, it is the Victoria Park Inn on the corner of Upper Sutton St. I think the pub a bit further along was the White Horse.

    Strange toys

Hi RobT, no, it wasn't that. The diver itself looked like your photos but had no attachments and was about 1 inch tall. He was also sealed in a clear plastic tube filled with water about 10 inches high. Couldn't squeeze the tube because it was hard plastic so there was a rubber button on the...

    Strange toys

For my 9th birthday in 1955 I had a deep sea diver in a water filled glass tube. By pressing the button on the top the diver went down and when button was released he came back up. I've tried to find an image of this particular toy without success. However, it's based on the Cartesian Diver...

    RIP PHIL

I'm sorry to hear about Phil. A couple of photos that he posted in the past that I'd never seen before really meant something to me and memories of my childhood. R.I.P.

Can you recognise which pub this is?

On this theme, here is a fairly battered photo of my wife & me when we were courting in 1963. This cameraman and set seemed to be a regular feature in Stourport at that time. Situated just off the river walkway by the bridge, I wonder if any members remember it.

Can you recognise which pub this is?

The railings on the right and the sunlight on the man's shoulders suggests to me that it is outdoors. Perhaps it was some sort of fete or exhibition.

    Guildford Street Lozells

I made this panorama image from two other photos which have previously appeared on this thread. Although not a photo in it's own right, I hope that it is acceptable to post it. This part of Guilford St ( looking towards Lozells Rd from Gerrard St ) is special to me because it's where I spent my...

    RTP Potato Crisps

Don't ever remember buying a packet of RTP crisps but remember frequently seeing their vans with the slogan "Another load of RTP crisps" written across the back doors.

    Cowper Street

My wife's family lived at 13/66 Cowper St which was the last house up Andover Court. Her uncle Gordon Rogers lived with his mother in the same court but nearer the road. Tommy Rogers was not part of her family.

Thanks for that info Dave, I never knew that.

    Whitehead street, Aston

I've been trawling through some old 35mm slides and found one of me on my bike circa 1965. I wondered if I could marry that photo with a photo of my first car (which I've posted before). The reason for this is because it gives a wider view of Whitehead Street and I thought that perhaps someone...

Gun Factories / Gun Quarter - Staff Lists ??

I worked in the gun trade in 1960 as a part time "runner" taking various parts to various workshops and remember most of the people specializing in one form or other of gun making were self employed. The workshop I went to every day was run by a barrel maker by the name of Phil Turner. He only...
