Hello Judy. The people I knew who worked at GKN were a happy bunch top, this was in Grove Lane. I never got sent that far out working as a temp. The Agency I worked for were stationed in Dudley. I don't think Hawleys was far from the Grove, and I also knew people who went there too. Heaven...

Well there we are then, I must have seen it, and the bus drivers changing over there. Suppose we just didn't absorb all what went on around us.

    School Board Man

So they should David. I don't think there is ever a time when I go shopping that I don't see school age children shopping with their parents, let alone going on holiday.

Thank you for that info David, I had a number of friends who worked at GKN, so that's what made me feel sure it was right by the Grove. I wonder if the Bundy clock was there in the late 50's when I used to go to that cinema?

Lovely pic Lyn, I remember the Grove cinema well, and went there often. I think GKN used to be almost next door didn't they?

    School Board Man

A short time ago in this country, there was supposed to be a threat of prison if parents kept there children off school. I think it was something that they couldn't police, so we never hear of it these days.

    School Board Man

I remember the School Board Man, and was really scared of him. At least then, if you were off school there would be no walking about the streets, as you were supposed to be ill if you took time off school. All so different today.

    Items that have faded away

Yes Carolina I often whitened my pumps, and summer sandals. Oh it was a messy job too. Can you still buy Robin starch in square boxes rosie? The last time I used starch (which was a long time ago), it came in an aerosol can. Now we use fabric conditioners, would starch work anyway?

    Springhill Ice rink Summerhill Road

I didn't even own a camera at that time, which is such a shame because there are many things in and around Brum that I wish I had captured on a film, including the street where I lived, which doesn't seem to appear anywhere, also my happy hours at Spring Hill Ice Rink would have been worth...

    Hingeston Street

I know all about this too Alan. At the time I lived up Carver St. My friend who now lives near me, lived in Hingeston St at the time, and when the press came to cover the murder, she had her photo taken right by the house in question, because she lived next door. I am still waiting for her to...

    Shampoo

I can just imagine how you must have looked rosie, bet you never wanted to try self tanning again in a hurry. I can't remember a shampoo called Deep, although I seem to able to remember a lot of old one's.

    Shampoo

Carolina, I remember the Italian cut (as it was called), and it's one that I had in the late 50's. Italian music and style was very much in at that time. JohnO, I had a sachet of Hint Of a Tint quite recently, so it's not been unavailable that long. What was Tanfastic, it sounds like some sort...

    Items that have faded away

Yes Bill123, I did used to do that with any old tissue paper, it made my lips feel all itchy, and I wasn't keen on that. Until you mentioned it, I'd forgotten about it.

    Bull Street

I do remember chenille tablecloths which were used underneath the white linen one on top. Also I think in old houses people had chenille door curtains to keep the draughts out. Chenille cardigans came into fashion during the 1990's.

Thank you Lindyloo. I remember it being there right into the 1960's. I have still got some lovely Christmas tree decorations that same from there.

Can someone tell me if I am losing my memory please. I seem to remember Henry's department store being in High Street.
