    Crossroads programme

Penns Hall Hotel (formerly home to Crossroads) has been used to house Asylum seekers for the past three years. I wonder what Meg would have to say and if any of the current residents have been made aware of Crossroads? There would certainly be some new, rather different story lines available for...

    Birmingham Town Hall

If you do a search see top right (magnifying glass), there are several previous threads where Town Hall Concerts were discussed Peter. These include "Birmingham Town Hall"(more than one), Groups we have seen live" and "Concerts at Birmingham Town Hall", I'm sure that is among the many Town Hall...

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

Wasn't it on Exeter Street (the first turn on the left, when going up Holloway Head from Holloway Circus)? Last time I was up that way around 10 years ago, the building was still there, but I couldn't see any sign of the place itself. I guess there isn't the demand now, as everywhere is open...

    OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

Here are a couple of Belmont Row: 1- Belmont Row/Prospect Row, 2 - St Peter's Church. There is also another thread titled, "Lock Keepers Cottage Belmont Row" that contains some other pictures, but I haven't been able to spot any other photos taken of the houses that were once there.

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

Yes, I've picked up my son and his friends from gigs too and I wasn't the only one waiting, we each gave each other a knowing smile, as we waited in the twilight hours for our kids to come out from Muse and My Chemical Romance concerts, for example. ;)

    The 1980’s House

I think it's what you become used to. I doubt my Nan or parents would have ever gone for a quilt. I used to like blankets too, but my wife has had us use a duvet since the 80s and I'm a convert.

    Remembrance Day 2024

I watched the BBC Midlands News last week (link below) and they are also doing some splendid knitting in Wellesbourne to mark Remembrance Day. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwyvjx15322o

    The 1980’s House

Even I was able to put together IKEA furniture. Everything from easy chairs to kitchen units. They were built to last and the instructions were easy to follow, like yourself we still have some IKEA items including a 5-drawer cabinet in the garage, that I put together 30 years ago.

    The 1980’s House

I remember spending 11 hours, 34 years ago (it seems like only yesterday:eek:)trying to put one of their wardrobes together. My wife knew I wasn't a DIY expert (to put it mildly), but I explained that it really wasn't down to me this time. She took it back and they admitted the screw holes were...

    The 1980’s House

That looks like something out of "The Jetsons" to me, you were way ahead of us in the kitchen department in the 80s!:grinning:

    Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

No, it's free admission still Lyn. It will be interesting to see what changes have been made, hopefully most of the previous exhibits will eventually still be there (I believe it isn't fully open yet) and the city haven't gone too "woke" on us.

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

Crazy isn't it? Then 30 - 40 odd years later, most of us would be saying the same to the next generation, having worried all night, like our parents had, until they made it back home. ;)

These were frequently in use at our 1980s house:

    Radio

As near as I get to BRMB these days is Les Ross on Boom at 10am on a Sunday. ;) Talking of DJs, sadly today will be Johnnie Walker's last Sunday "Sounds of the 70s" show on Radio 2, after 58 years on air. Johnnie is unable to continue due to his terminal illness (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis)...

You are now eligible to apply for this subsidy. You can apply through the link. We will review it as soon as possible and...

    George Road Erdington

A little more on the Sons of Rest. It was established when a group of retired working men, veterans of WWI, met at Handsworth Park in 1927 and one of them, proposed that they form a club. It grew out of concern amongst retired veterans of WW1 that there were no places that they could meet and...

    George Road Erdington

My grandmother told me that it was used by WW1 veterans. It sadly became another victim of arson in 2013 and had been at the park since 1930. Link below: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/erdington-sons-rest-veterans-club-6254716

Does anyone know which pub this was?

The first picture is of a Bingley Hall Trades Show (note the Bovril stand on the right) pity we can't spot the refreshment rooms (taps and all), although the second picture does show EH James's sample room and features Phoenix Dublin Stout.
