    The Verb "To Mow"

You're never alone when you 'mow' ... there's always three guys and a dog (called Spot!) hanging around!
  2. J

    Do you know these 3?

I don't know the girls (alas) but I recognise the Crocodile! I have one just like it, but mine has only three legs!

    Tony Hancock

Don't mind me ... just discovering stuff, is all ...

    Tony Hancock

Hm yes, but as WHAT ?!?!?!? DON'T answer that!

    Tony Hancock

Thylacine, thanks mate! I had purposely left out his surname! I should have known that the 'ferrets' amongst us would root-out the 'chapter and verse' of it all! It seems now to be almost a 'family business' down there. Several of Jim's off-spring/grandchildren work within the TV and...

    Huckster shopkeeper

I couldn't agree more Lloyd, I love this picture. What is often termed 'Chocolate Box' is often an accurate rendering of lost scenes, albeit a tad idealised ... but no more so than any of us to day, choosing the best angle/aspect/vista for our photographs.

starbank - sorry no; the cousin, (second or third to my father) James, was the founding General Manager of ATN7 in Sydney. I've never communicated with him, but my father used to keep in-touch with his parents. I believe his son worked in the production team too. I was told a few things...

    Gas Street basin

Smashing! Gas Street Basin was my favourite area of Brum; it's nice to see how much it has been smartened-up since my day.

    Tony Hancock

Apropos of nothing in particular, an Australian cousin of mine produced Tony Hancocks last TV performance, before Tony's sad demise.

    Pineapple tarts

Yes! Firkins! It still exists eh? Marvelous! I thought Firkins had disappeared eons ago. Oh what simple joy, as an adolescent, to ask ''got any Firkin cakes?!?!''

The sayings of our teachers - Can you remember any?

''My room, Monday morning, 9.15!'' Our Headmaster liked to give us time to work up a good sense of terror! Psychological warfare or what?!?!?

    Morris Dancers

I bet Anne Hathaway was a bit peeved!

    Brummie sayings & language

I believe it is red and green, as they are colour opposites ... however, if the EXACT opposite is achieved, it often works well.

    All Saints, West Bromwich Staffordshire

All Saints, or 'Old Church' as it is known locally, is a beautiful place and well worth a visit. When I was a lad it was almost the 'countryside' there.

Can anyone help restore these old photo's?

Luluco - what the devil is wrong with the grooms feet??? Are they pom-poms, or are his toes poking through??? The bride appears to be toting (I first thought!) a multi-barreled 'crows-foot' pistol, hanging from her belt; until I realised it was the twig-ends of her bouquet! I really must get...

    Mot

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before; but you can now get an MOT done at some local councils transport-service depts. As Col h says above, you don't get anything other than the MOT; no 'trying it on' for a few (?) extra bucks etc.

    Eddy Stobarts

I'd never knock another's hobby (as long as it was legal!) ... the diversity of our interests is what makes Britain, above all other countries, such a fascinating place. A man with a hobby is a man part-way to happiness, in my opinion. Most 'anoraks' have something to get up for, of a...

    Eddy Stobarts

Still seems to be 'in the family' but with the addition of an old Stobbart employee. A fascinating programme of a firm that still believes in excellent service and high-standards. I was mightily impressed by both the management and the employees.

    W.w.greener Sporting Guns.

Thanks for that Barrie! I really wished I'd kept the gun, but I part-exed it in the 70's for a twin-barrel job. Yes, a 12 guage solid slug is, I believe, the equivalent force of two .44 Magnum rounds in one! As you say, it would literally stop a bus! Regards, JohnO.
